From Slim Aarons to Meg Braff, This Pool Umbrella is Pure Retro-Glam

It is currently 79° and we are officially “in season” here in South Florida. While the rest of the country is shivering in the cold, I’m lounging pool-side with a piña colada!  OK, not really… I’m stressing over what to do with our disaster of a backyard as part of our major home renovation.  And one thing is for certain… it simply will not be complete without this fabulous, retro-chic pool umbrella designer Meg Braff shared with Coastal Living as part of her “10 Island Style Essentials.”

It is by Santa Barbara Designs and this particular model is the “DoubleDecker” in watermelon with bronze frame.  It comes in a rainbow of colors, trims and finishes, for example:
But the watermelon keyhole valance is my favorite, and I love it with this white binding!

Just to prove the glamorous, retro-chicness of this pool umbrella, check out Slim Aarons’ iconic Poolside Gossip photograph, circa 1970 Palm Springs.
My coveted umbrella is looking pretty sunny and cheerful in yellow!
Hmmm… maybe I should get yellow.  Or pink?  No, yellow!!  Oh, I cannot decide… What color do you like best?

  1. The Gracious Posse loves pink, but blue could work too. Where can I buy one??? Love your site!

  2. Oh the watermelon keyhole had me at hello!
Love that citrus yellow lots, too.

  3. AWESOME! This is all I was expecting to hear and I swear it surely excites me… Two thumbs up! Thanks for sharing!
