Chinoiserie Chic in Florida: The Kitchen

Beth from Chinoiserie Chic is back at The Glam Pad today, and yet again, she has outdone herself! In case you are just tuning in, for the past three weeks Beth has been guest posting a virtual renovation of a circa 1925 Chinese home located in Coral Gables, Florida.  The home is an amazing example of Chinese architecture, but it is in need of a makeover… thus serving as the perfect canvas for a Chinoiserie Chic renovation! Click here to learn more about this historic home. . In week one, Beth renovated the entry. In week two, she transformed the dining room, and this week she takes on the kitchen! It is AMAZING!!  Stay tuned next week as Beth transforms the porch.

I'm back today with a virtual makeover of the kitchen in the Chinese Village House and boy, does it need it! A complete gut job is in order except for the red windows and the wood floor. In keeping with the red and yellow color scheme of this historic home's exterior and the interior red fretwork throughout, I have brought red and yellow into the kitchen.

The wood floor will be stained the same black ebony I have used in the entryway and dining room. The walls are wallpapered in the iconic Clarence House David Hicks The Vase in the yellow colorway. The cabinets are sleek high gloss white with Carrara marble countertops and backsplash. The refrigerator and dishwasher will also be faced in white high gloss panels so they virtually disappear.

At center stage will be this stunning red range and hood. The window treatments are relaxed roman shades in linen with an inset band of black. A vintage palm chandelier - so Palm Beach Chic - is painted high gloss red. A black marble Saarinen tulip table and red iron Chinese Chippendale chairs are a great spot to eat when one is not using the formal dining room.
