Christmas with Aerin Lauder

I have always been mesmerized by Aerin Lauder's exquisite taste and completely in awe of all of her incredible homes. From her New York apartment to homes in Long Island, Aspen, and Palm Beach, this style icon truly lives an enchanted life. If you haven't yet purchased her recently released book Beauty at Home, I highly recommend that you add it to your Christmas wish list. I can't keep my hands off of it, as it is packed full of pure gorgeousness! Since Christmas is just around the corner, let's take a look at how Aerin decorates and entertains at the holidays...

Aerin says via worldofaerin.com, "I love holiday parties—going to them, hosting them—it is such a fun time of year. I especially like how holiday gatherings span generations. From grandparents to little ones, everyone is together having a great time. With so many different ages at my own parties, I like to offer food that appeals to everyone whether they are 5 or 85.  I always serve pigs in blankets, smoked salmon on toast, cheese puffs, and crab cakes. Desserts like Christmas and gingerbread cookies, peppermint ice cream and brownies are impossible to resist. Vintage cocktail napkins in red and green embroidered with holly, Santas, or initials are stacked on tables. I always place treats like chocolate balls, peppermint sticks, ribbon candy, nuts and popcorn in gold nesting bowls around the apartment. I love how gold accents make everything feel more festive."

"I decorate my apartment with lots of red everywhere during the holidays—peonies, dahlias, and berries. I’ll wrap garlands around the stairs and over the fireplace mantle. In the den, I play Christmas movies like Miracle on 34th Street or Rudolph on the TV.   When it is time to leave, I have small gifts like scented candles wrapped in gold paper and ribbon waiting at the door a custom my grandmother taught me many years ago," said Aerin.

"My family liked to make a big deal out of holidays. I remember Christmas Eve dinners at my grandmother's townhouse, with Champagne, caviar, roast beef, and her favorite desert - bûche de Noël. The table was always beautifully set. There would be a fire crackling, and piles of presents, and she would have the Salvation Army come over and sing carols with us. It was warm and generous, and I've tried to re-create that same feeling for my own children. I grew up in houses that were always full of friends and family, and that impulse to bring people together is part of my DNA," Aerin Lauder -  Beauty at Home.

You may recall this fabulous feature in the December 2007 issue of House & Garden magazine...

Every Christmas Eve, Aerin sets the table with Estée's silver and tableware, and she cooks a big holiday dinner using old family recipes.

In Aerin's elegant dining room, the Indian marble table is ready for Christmas. It is set with her grandmother Estée's English cut crystal, gold flatware, and vintage lace napkins.

Vintage Chinese urns line the mantle in the living room.

Aerin always gets a gingerbread house from William Poll, in NYC.
