Southern Living Goes Palm Beach Chic

I have been reading Southern Living since I was a little girl, and so I was thrilled by the March and April issues, which feature some fabulous Palm Beach Chicness!

Let’s take a look at the April issue Designer Lindsey Harper's preppy and posh Palm Beach inspired table setting features punchy hues and seaside motifs.

Lindsey used a clamshell filled with lemons for an instant and affordable centerpiece!

“It’s always beautiful when you mix new with old and color with clear,” Lindsey said. She suggests looking for colorful glasses at thrift stores, or bringing out family heirlooms.

The repeated use of bamboo and coral incorporates beachy motifs into the table setting. The sophisticated color scheme of turquoise, gold, and coral keeps it from looking overly themed. China by Raynaud "Cristobol" in Coral.

A striking tray brings equal parts organization and beauty to this very fashionable bar cart. Hot pink carnations add a burst of color without crowding the utilitarian space.
In the March issue of Southern Living, Dana Small, owner of Matilda's and Cabana boutiques in Stuart, Florida hosted a fabulous pink and green Lilly Pulitzer-inspired party.
"I love to use bright and bold color combinations when I'm entertaining. This party, inspired by the great Lilly Pulitzer, reflects the preppiest combo of pink and green. I also added a splash of turquoise to coordinate with the colors of my home's interiors,” said Dana.
"My mom taught me the great trick of hanging paper lanterns and other festive details from the ceiling using thumbtacks and fishing line," said Dana. "It fills the empty space above a table, and the tacks barely leave any evidence."
"Don't layer your table with unnecessary glasses or utensils," Dana advised. "Use only what you need for your menu." But do take the time to try a napkin fold. "I have a book on napkin folds, and it's fun to re-create those!"
The custom tablecloths are made of Lilly Pulitzer fabric. "I always have them made unlined so I can reuse the fabric for throw pillows later," she said. "I'm also constantly on the hunt for unusual vintage pieces that I can use in a party setting, such as this bar cart. A fresh coat of bright paint gives it an easy update."
Dana offers a tip for saving money on flowers. "Keep in mind what's in season to make it affordable. Then add an element of surprise. The kitschy flamingos in these flower arrangements add that 'wow' factor."
Every party should have something personal and memorable. "I'll often display the menu in a take-home frame and have a photo taken of guests that they can later add to the frame," Dana said.
I am so inspired by these incredible Palm Beach Chic entertaining ideas! Did you notice the two bamboo bar carts painted in white and in pink? They remind me of the bar cart I scored on Craigslist in Palm Beach the other week, and blogged about here. And I am absolutely going to recreate those fabulous flamingo centerpieces.

Speaking of flamingos, check back for more on my flamingo obsession!

I never knew how much I loved the color purple until I started to compile these images! There is a wide range of styles and shades represented here... I tend to lean towards the lighter, more soothing lilac rooms. It would be impossible for me to pick a favorite... but the bedrooms by Andrew Raquet and Martyn Lawrence-Bullard for Sharon Osbourne are just divine.

What are your thoughts on purple for the bedroom?
