In April, I wrote about the sale of the late Lilly Pulitzer's beautiful Palm Beach home, which I was saddened to learn was being sold for lot value. Well, I'm delighted to report the estate sold last month, and the new owner has vowed to restore the home and keep the property (aka Lilly's "jungle") in tact!!
Lilly's remaining possessions will be held at auction on February 22, 2014 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The 286 auction lots may be previewed in person beginning February 14 (click here for the schedule), or they may be viewed online.
Here are a few of my favorite items from the sale...
Tania Vartan, (20th/21st century), Rooms of Lilly Pulitzer's House, 2004 (two works).
A Pair of Chinese Export Porcelain Covered Urns.
Two Chinese Export Garden Seats.
A White Painted Low Table and Side Table, each with an open fretwork top inset with glass.
Three Pottery Figures of Monkeys, Height of tallest 16 1/4 inches.
A Chinese Ceramic Box, modeled as a tortoise with a monkey holding a peach on its back.
A Pair of Cast Plaster Garden Lanterns, each in the form of a pagoda. Height 63 1/2 inches.
A Pair of Upholstered Slipper Chairs, surmounted by scrolled ears with ruching, passementerie and braided fringe throughout.
A Victorian Bamboo and Lacquer Bedroom Suite, comprising a half tester bed, an occasional table and a side table.
A Chinese Export Lacquered and Painted Bar Cabinet, 20th century, having a hinged top and a fall front opening to a fitted interior above two cupboard doors, with inlaid hardstones and shells throughout.
A Set of Four Framed Prints, each depicting a tiger among dense foliage.
A Printed Canvas Whimsical Map of Palm Beach, in a white frame.
