For this challenge, I am decorating my home office, inspired by Lilly Pulitzer's antique wicker and bentwood desk that I purchased at her estate auction in February, from her very own home office! I love to think of the personal correspondence and business savvy that the Queen of Palm Beach Chic herself created at this desk... and given the condition, there was a lot of inspiration going on here, because it was definitely in need of a fresh coat of paint and some minor repairs. I debated on whether or not to restore the desk, as each of those chips and missing pieces held a special story and place in history, but the paint was really really chippy, and I just couldn't live with it on a daily basis. So last week, Lilly's desk received a minor face lift, and she is now resting comfortably in her new home!
As a side note, I must share a fun story. When we took the drawers out of this desk to repaint, I found the following items stuffed in the back...
It was surreal to find Lilly's Palm Beach return home address stamp, along with her "FAXED" stamp, a broken piece of gold molding, paperclip, organizer, hairband, and fabric sample... does anyone know the name of this Braemore pattern? And last but not least... a disposable camera with eight pictures taken! The second I found this camera, I hopped in the car, sped over to Wallgreens, and waited anxiously for one hour processing... Unfortunately, there were no terribly exciting images other than Lilly's carport (as the camera was appropriately labeled)... If I had to guess, the pictures may have been taken for documentation purposes, as said carport appeared to be damaged. But still, I have pictures of Lilly's carport!! And her car in front! And that is pretty exciting to me.
Now back to my room... Did you know that Lilly Pulitzer has partnered with Garnet Hill to offer an exclusive line of affordably priced bedding and accessories? I fell in love with the "Lucky Charm" pattern, which coordinated perfectly with all of the existing colors I had going in to my ORC. Click here to view the collection which is currently on sale! I purchased sheets to use for a DIY bulletin board and coordinating chair pillow. More to come soon!
Lilly Pulitzer bulletin board DIY coming soon! And clearly, I have not started organizing my bookcase yet.
I love how this Lilly Pulitzer fabric ties in my existing Stark rug, silk drapes, and Chinese porcelain.
We also brought up the vintage elephant console I purchased for $230 at an estate sale... It was already lacquered white, and I think I will keep the color as-is. Thoughts?
Above the console, I will hang the "Three Wise Monkeys" giclees I purchased yesterday from Jennifer at The Pink Pagoda's Etsy Shop.
You can view the entire inventory of Lilly's estate auction here.
I also found the perfect desk chair, thanks to the Luxe Girls at Luxe Report Designs. This is a bargain version of the $400 Louis Ghost Chair by Phillipe Starck... I'll provide a full report as soon as it arrives!
Casper Dining Armchair in Clear, available for $99 (including free shipping!)
