Gatsby-Era Oceanfront Masterpiece for Sale in Palm Beach

May 12, 2013

The Great Gatsby remake opened yesterday to mixed reviews, but one thing everyone agrees upon… it’s quite the spectacle… a visual feast for the eyes that appropriately captures the over-the-top decadence and extravagance that was the Gilded Age. So in the spirit of The Great Gatsby, today I bring you Louwana, built by the legendary Addison Mizner in 1919.

Louwana, built for Gurnee Munn, was sold in 1960 by his daughter Fernanda Wanamaker Munn, to her half-brother, Arturo de Heeren and his wife, Aimee. The glamorous Aimee de Heeren died in 2006 at 103 years of age. An exotic beauty, Aimee de Heeren was a fixture on the international social scene and a regular on the best-dressed lists.

Louwana, described as “quite possibly the most romantic period oceanfront mansion available in Palm Beach today,” and “one of the last Great Houses of Palm Beach,” is a majestic and picturesque 13,000+ square foot villa that sprawls over 1.5 acres, featuring 150 feet of idyllic direct private beachfront. Exquisitely preserved in museum condition, the mansion features 12 bedrooms, 12 full and 3 partial bathrooms, elevator, guest house, pool, beach cabana, tennis court, and three car garage.Originally listed for $30M in 2008, today Louwana can be yours for just $22M!

Can’t you just see Daisy and Gatsby wintering at Louwana? Interestingly, Louwana’s next door neighbor is the Trump monstrosity, sold in 2008 for $95M, yeck. Click here for a peek inside the de Heeren’s Manhattan pad, which was every bit as luxurious as Louwana…. They also had homes in Paris and Biarritz. What a life!
UPATE: This home was designed by the legendary Keith Irvine in the 1960s.

Wow. What a great property! The ocean view……a girl can dream, right? I really loved the French doors in the dining room. The drapery too, with the selected height. I can almost feel the ocean breeze.
I hope you have a Happy Mothers Day!

Crap! It's totally out of my price range. I have been on this road many times. My In-laws have a condo not far from here. This is my favorite section of PB.
