I was flipping through the November issue of Coastal Living today, and this Q&A with Los Angeles-based designer Betsy Burnham piqued my interest…
Her quote intrigues me… “I can define a client’s design goals by looking in her closet.”
I absolutely love Betsy’s eclectic mix of color, vintage, and Chinoiserie elements. (I also love that she has two Chihuahuas named Lola and Nina Garcia. How cute is that!?) Here are a few of my favorite rooms from her portfolio….
Now back to Betsy’s intriguing quote… Is your décor a reflection of your wardrobe? Does our sense of style in fashion go hand-in-hand with our decorating tastes? I am interested in exploring this concept further.

I love this concept too…and think it is true for me! Love BB too:)
Beautiful work here! I have to go check out her portfolio!
Enjoy the weekend,Karolyn
I have heard this quote from a few designers, and I don't agree. My wardrobe is mostly black. I do love her style, now I need to check out her portfolio.
I wish I was bold enough to live with orange. Some really good work here….

I interned for Betsy when I was in college and I love her bold style and eclectic design! I think my design style is definitely a little more all encompassing than my wardrobe, but maybe that means I should mix up my clothing and be a bit more adventurous 🙂

To a certain extend I agree with the quote…if you are talking about the larger themes. For example if you dress bohemian then your house probably has that vibe, and if you dress in a more classic look, I could see that reflected in the way you decorate your rooms. But as for exact details, I think I dress with more bold colors and patterns overall since I only have to live with an outfit for about a day. But when it comes to my house, especially big ticket items like a couch, I always go with neutrals because I have to live with it for years!
What a great portfolio love her use of color and pattern! Thanks for sharing Andrea!
Love her work…she is very talented…I'm not sure my wardrobe matches my home..but I guess that could be true…
I just love her work – chic and sophisticated and read her article cover to cover…such sage advice! Happy Monday ~
I love that first room. Thanks for the intro!
I have loved so many of her rooms. So glad to have a name to go with those amazing spaces. Thanks!
Hmmm that is intriguing to think about, whether your decor style reflects your wardrobe. I really don't think mine does. Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong with my wardrobe! A great thing to take into consideration.
Love these images … I don't spend as much time on my wardrobe as I do my home … or others' homes. I need to work on that!! xo
