One Room Challenge Week One

April 2, 2014

Welcome to One Room Challenge™ Week One. If you are new to my blog, welcome! I am delighted you are here. As you know, Linda from Calling it Home created this semiannual challenge, where 20 interior decorators and design bloggers are asked to transform a room within six weeks. The ORC has become one of the hottest design events in the blogosphere, and I am thrilled to join such a talented group!

Thanks to Jennifer at The Pink Pagoda for creating the fabulous ORC graphics!
The room I have selected for this challenge is my home office. If you follow my blog, you may recall that I attended the Lilly Pulitzer estate auction in February, and I purchased Lilly’s very own desk!

So naturally, I will be creating a Lilly Pulitzer-inspired office, with some Hollywood Regency and Chinoiserie thrown in the mix to achieve a look that is “Tropical Glam.” My inspiration board is below…
My goals for this room are as follows:
  • Repaint Lilly’s desk to its former glory.
  • Use Lilly Pulitzer sheets to create a giant DIY bulletin board and chair pillow.
  • Find and purchase the perfect office chair.
  • Purchase whimsical prints from The Pink Pagoda and frame.
  • Move my vintage elephant console (an estate find!) from the garage to my office.
  • Create storage for my vast collection of magazines using baskets beneath the console.
  • Purchase and plant a palm in a Chinoiserie planter.
  • Overhaul my disastrously messy bookcase, and give it some style!
  • Organize, organize, organize! Even though we moved in last fall, this room has been a dumping ground until now, and I still have boxes to unpack!
  • Accessorize.
Coming into this challenge, my office already had a few key elements…
  • Custom coral silk Dupioni drapes, salvaged and reused from our last home.
  • Vintage mirrored Ello cabinet, repurposed as a bookcase, from Again & Again.
  • Navy blue and white Stark rug in “Beatrice“… an eBay score.
  • Tropical leaf ceiling fan… not the most glamorous lighting solution, but a necessity here in sweltering South Florida.
  • Collection of Chinese blue and white porcelain.
Here is my office, in its current state… (Don’t be fooled… there are more boxes. I shamefully hid them in the hall for these pictures.)

My desk and bulletin board will go against this wall.

Elephant console table and framed prints from The Pink Pagoda here.

What lurks behind those closet doors is not pretty… I must finish unpacking and get organized!
As you can see, the color scheme for my office is coral pink, blue, and white… which I think is such a Palm Beach Chic combination. Here are a few inspirational pictures I compiled when putting these colors and my story board together.

My elephant console is identical to this one, but lacquered in white!
