Last week after featuring the spectacular transformation of designer Lee Robinson’s historic Kentucky home, I received a few requests for more before and after posts. Everyone loves a good before and after, so today let’s take a look at a seven-room apartment at the Pierre hotel on Fifth Avenue rejuvenated by the illustrious Alexa Hampton. It had not been touched for nearly half a century and was “very dated, but there was wonderful potential,” said Hampton. Her client, a Brazilian businesswoman, intended to use the apartment as a pied-à-terre that functioned like a hotel suite in terms of convenience, but with all of the comforts of home. Hampton worked her magic turning the once dreary space into an elegant oasis. Her client’s impressive art collection provided the icing on the cake with works by Fernand Léger and Joan Miró, as well as leading Latin American artists.
