I am a huge fan of designer Richard Keith Langham, and I could hardly wait to dive into his first book “About Decorating” featuring beautiful interiors replete with tradition, color, exquisite tailoring, elegance, and a dash of whimsy and Southern flair. Langham trained under under the legendary designers Mark Hampton and Keith Irvine (who also happen to be two of my all-time favorites) and their influence clearly helped shape his extraordinary aesthetic.
Alabama born, Manhattan-based Langham has been a force in the decorating world for over 25 years. He studied at Parsons School of Design and earned a degree from The Fashion Institute of Technology in interior design. After an apprenticeship under Mark Hampton, he moved to London and enrolled in the Study Center for the History of Fine and Decorative Arts where he broadened his knowledge of English design and decoration. Returning to New York, he landed a position with the venerable firm, Irvine & Fleming and gained 10 years of experience in their American version of luxe English country house style. Langham launched his own business in 1994 and quickly made a splash. He worked with some of the city’s most legendary ladies – Mrs. William F. Buckley, Jr. and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who once proclaimed him to have a “sorcerer’s eye” for design.
About Decorating: The Remarkable Rooms of Richard Keith Langham features a selection of city and country projects—waterside estates on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Florida’s Jupiter Island, gracious country houses in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, a grand townhouse in New Orleans, and city residences in New York, Washington, D.C., and Memphis… Signature touches including custom-painted murals, curious antiques, and couture fabrics work together to create Langham’s signature design magic, while mixing the rigors of classicism, paired with a Southern predilection for comfortable elegance.
