Margaret Kirkland is a classic interior designer whose work I greatly admire. After attending Parsons School of Design in New York, Margaret moved back to her hometown of Atlanta and worked for celebrated designer Dan Carithers for more than six years. She opened Margaret Kirkland Interiors in 2010 and was named one of House Beautiful’s Next Wave designers and one of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazine’s “15 Under 40”. Today’s home tour is slightly more contemporary than Margaret’s signature traditional palette… but it is fun and whimsical, and full of cheerful color!
Margaret’s clients had been living in this Georgian home, located in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood, since they had it built in 2005. They were ready for a refresh, so they asked Margaret to infuse warmth and youthfulness into the traditional interiors without getting rid of the wife’s cherished antiques. She wanted it to be cozy and comfortable, so Margaret filled the rooms with a mix of relaxed upholstered furniture and contemporary pieces. Images from Southern Living…

Pretty house. Love the bar!
Pretty! She used the right contemporary pieces to look fresh and beautiful with the antiques. Not too much contemporary to look cold and unhappy!
I just love this house. It is gorgeous.
Margaret Kirkland’s work is always so well done. I love her use of color and pattern here and making the house more contemporary while not stripping away of any character or past.
