Located in County Westmeath, Ireland, Ballinlough Castle is one of the few castles in Ireland to have belonged to just one family – the Nugent family – for over 400 years. Built in 1614, it known as one of the nation’s prettiest Irish castles. Ballinlough Castle was sensitively refreshed by Todhunter Earle Interiors when the current occupants, a young family, took over the house. The bedrooms were brightened with large scale wallpapers and fabrics, beds re-dressed and new bathrooms installed. The essence of the traditional Irish castle has been retained, while updating the house for modern living. Let’s take a look inside!
I was excited to learn that Ballinlough Castle is available to hire on an exclusive basis! Ireland is on my family’s bucket list, and this would be the dreamiest place to stay. Additional information from their website is below… Count me in!
Located just one hour from Dublin Airport, is a house of contrasts; the old and the modern, with ‘quality’ and ‘quirky’ in the same offering. Its spectacular lakeside setting and historic grounds offer a tranquil setting for guests to relax and enjoy the spacious estate, woodlands and garden areas. You can fish and swim in the lake and there are nine golf holes on the property, with the first hole only two minutes from the front door!
With a full team of staff that will be there for your needs, and the personal attention and assistance (should you require it) of Lady Nugent, you can hire Ballinlough Castle for groups of up to 18 people throughout the year. The castle has four master bedroom suites, each with a four poster bed, and a further 5 bedrooms all decorated to a very high standard, fitting to such an impressive castle.
You might get a chance of seeing a ghost by night, or a kingfisher by day, or it may just be the time you spend with family or friends that will create memories that last for life. The food and wine, the smiles from the Ballinlough staff, or the activity opportunities the estate offers all create reasons to come back year after year. When you stay at Ballinlough Castle within its spacious interiors, it becomes a very personal experience; you may arrive as a stranger, but you leave as a friend.
