Thanksgiving is Thursday, so today we are touring a warm and cozy Connecticut farmhouse designed by G.P. Schafer Architecture, that would be the perfect place to spend the holiday! Nestled among 300 hilly acres in Northwestern Connecticut, Gil describes the 1930s home as “a classic Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House Connecticut Colonial.” The owners originally bought the property only for the land with the intention of having Gil build their own dream house, but they quickly fell in love with the charm and quirks of the original home.
His clients fell in love with its modesty and integrity, yet Gil tuned up the architecture very slightly in order to give it enough presence to support their extensive collection of antiques, artwork, and collections. The house was taken apart completely – salvaging as much of the original as possible – and then put back together, keeping true to the original residence. Two distinct entry terraces were created, and some of the interior space was reconfigured to better suit modern life. Windows and French doors were added to capture the light and the spectacular views of the lush gardens beyond…
Can’t you just imagine how beautiful the foliage must be in the fall?! To see more of this home, please visit Gil Schaefer’s portfolio, and you can read more in his latest book, A Place to Call Home.

Perfectly beautiful.
Everything shouts comfort. He is a master of timelessness.
Sublime! Very calming and welcoming. A happy, livable home.
What an enticing home. Full of personality, warmth and comfort. I would love to live there. Gill is such a Master.
I am so glad the owners fell in love with the original and let Gil Schafer refine it the way only he can. He is one of THE premier architects/designers in the country. Lucky homeowners!!!
