Christmas in Virginia with Ashley Hanley

Designer Ashley Hanley is back today, sharing a tour of her beautiful 1930s Richmond, Virginia home festively adorned for the holidays! Yesterday, we featured Ashely’s Top 10 Tips for Throwing a Memorable Holiday Dinner Party, and she is also one of The Glam Pad’s Tastemakers for our annual “Christmas with the Tastemakers” shopping guide. We cannot get enough of her classic, collected, layered style!

“Next to the summer months, Christmas time is my most favorite time of year,” Ashley says. “My birthday is December 22, so I think I have always embraced the month as a celebratory and joyous time. My holiday decorations have evolved over the years and I finally feel that I have really come up with a plan that works year after year, and especially to coordinate with our home decor palette.”

“Holiday traditions are strong in our family and I love carrying them on with our two young girls. Every year I collect new ornaments to add to our tree that eventually will get passed to my girls. I look for ornaments that signify a fun vacation, a memory in honor of a loved one, or a special moment that we experienced during that year.

Growing up my grandmother had a new theme every year for her tree decor, and I find myself subconsciously doing this with my gift wrap every year. Gift giving is one my love languages and I absolutely love finding unique paper, ribbon and adornments to wrap everyone’s gifts. Fortunately, we can now display our wrapped gifts under the tree now that our lovable lab, Grady, is old enough to not steal the ribbon off of the gifts.”

“Another favorite holiday tradition that I look forward to is sending out our holiday cards and receiving all of our friends and families cards. They always bring such joy and I look forward to finding fun ways to display them throughout our house. My girls especially love looking at them and finding cousins or friends like a fun game of ‘Where’s Waldo'”.
