For today’s Fashion Friday, I am thrilled to feature jewelry designer, Lisi Lerch. Inspired by retro styles, Lisi’s pieces have become iconic staples, particularly her fabulous tassel earrings which exude 1960s Palm Beach chic. They truly make any outfit exceptional! I was introduced to this amazing jewelry by my fashion muse, blogger Teggy French, pictured below. Intrigued to learn more about the brains behind the brand, I conducted a Q&A with Lisi. Learn more about this Southern Belle who originally started her business by selling Kentucky Derby-esc hats, and keep reading for a special discount code, just readers of The Glam Pad!
Q: Who are your fashion icons, and what periods to you gravitate towards? What is it about these eras that inspires you?
A: My Grandmother Libby was/is my fashion icon. She always looked stunning and had the most fabulous jewelry. Every piece had a different story, and I loved hearing all the stories about them. Not to mention she always smelled fabulous! There are so many eras of fashion that I can’t get enough of (of course the 50’s and 60’s) but I have always been in awe of the beauty, color, and elegance of Egyptian, Moroccan, Monacoian women (Grace Kelly!) and the women of surrounding countries.
Q: Tassels are so hot right now, and you were one of the first trendsetters to set this style on fire. How did you come up with the idea for your fabulous beaded tassel earrings and necklaces?
A: Well, it sounds pretty crazy but I always wake up in the middle of the night and have these amazing ideas. I used to have a little notebook next to my bed to jot down ideas but now I just run downstairs, sketch my idea and scan it to my factory. I have SO many new tassels coming out this fall and next spring!!! It’s really fun to see my crazy middle-of-the-night ideas come to life!!!
Q: Any fun stories or inspiration to share about how you created other pieces?
A: Oh my gosh I don’t know where to begin there are so many. I guess the first one that comes to mind is the night after my very first really big show in NY. I went to dinner with my dear friend, and I was facing this really cool painting in the restaurant of the 1920’s African American Singer Josephine Baker. She was wearing the most amazing earrings which I did a version of, and they are my Josie Earrings!
Q: It seems that 60s and 70s inspired fashion and jewelry is currently all the rage. What trends are you seeing for fall? How should one incorporate your pieces into this look?
A: Tassels, tassels and still more tassels. Girls should wear my pieces however makes them feel pretty, that’s what I do!
Q: You started your business by selling Kentucky Derby hats. Are these still available for sale?
A: I have EVERY intention of bringing back my hats someday! Hopefully sooner rather than later! I was born and raised 10 min south of The Mason Dixon Line!!! But often I’ve thought it was supposed to have been hundreds of miles more south ☺
Q: You and your husband currently live in the Philadelphia area, correct? Any children or pets?
A: Yes! I met my husband when we worked at the same firm on Wall Street 15 years ago. He is from Haverford, PA so we moved here after Cornell Business School 12 years ago. I love it here!
Q: What are your favorite hobbies?
A: I have no hobbies with three little kids (Libby 12, KK 10, Jonesy 7) and an exploding business!!! Although I do manage to squeeze in a set or two of tennis here and there every once in a while!
Q: Anything else you would like to share?
A: I LOVE LOVE LOVE this fun job that I have made for myself. I hope everyone loves wearing my creations as much as I love creating them!!!!
