Ashley Whittaker Decorates a Sunny Westchester Home

October 27, 2015

Ashley Whittaker is absolutely one of my favorite designers, and I was thrilled to see her latest work featured in the November issue of House Beautiful. The home was designed to serve as a family gathering place, full of personality and life, and the result feels collected and welcoming. “It should be as comfortable when you’re having three people over for lunch as it is when you’re hosting 50 people for cocktails. And my client does both very often,” said Whittaker.

Whittaker sets off floral curtains in Lee Jofa’s Bryanston with lush velvet on the sofa. Madeline Weinrib’s Luce ikat updates a Gustavian chair, and the rug is from Stark.
In the family room, a custom two-sided sofa defines separate seating areas. Genius!
The Phillip Jeffries Manila Hemp wallcovering perfectly matches the beautiful Dodie Thayer lettuce wear place settings, and Shyam Ahuja’s crewelwork on Hickory chair seating provides a citrusy punch. I love the pendant by the Urban Electric Co. with lampshades in Loom Decor’s Labyrinth.
de Gournay’s Jardinieres Citrus Trees provided the launching pallet for the dining room.
Stout Double Gourd lamps by Christopher Spitzmiller complement the green accents in the Clarence House Babur upholstery and curtains in the library.
Tibet Print wallpaper by Clarence House adds whimsy in the bar along with a mirrored star pendant. The fabulous paper was selected by the husband, whose “involvement in the project began and ended there,” said Whittaker. Wise choice!
Whittaker used Cole & Son’s Palace Maze wallpaper in a powder room. The sink is by Waterworks, and two Galerie des Lampes sconces with shades in Sister Parish Design’s Dots flank the Moorea gold-leaf mirror from Mecox.
Phillip Jeffries’ Star Dusk silk lines the walls in the beautiful marble master bath. The bench and fittings are by Waterworks.
In the master bedroom, Whittaker lined the canopy in Bassett McNab’s Interlachen Scroll and papered the walls with Brunschwig & Fils’ Malabar Coast.

To see more of this home, the November issue is currently on newsstands or visit House Beautiful online. You can also read an interview about Ashley Whittaker’s design inspiration here. And I have previously featured Whittaker’s work on my blog here and here.

The two-sided sofa is such a great idea.
