Brooklyn Heights has long been one of New York’s most charming neighborhoods, with its picturesque tree-lined streets, magnificent historic townhouses, and architectural treasures around nearly every corner. It is difficult to imagine a more fitting setting for a designer showhouse!

This year’s Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse takes place within a magnificent 1852 Greek Revival mansion at One Monroe Place. Originally built for merchant Samuel Bell, the residence has been given a rather fabulous new lease on life by 19 designers, each bringing their own personality and decorative flair to the historic home.
I had the pleasure of visiting the showhouse and was particularly excited by the number of emerging designers represented this year. What I found especially refreshing was the way each designer brought a fresh perspective to familiar decorative traditions, with a wonderful appreciation for color, pattern, and the decorative arts. There is a certain ease to many of the rooms, which feel charming, personal, and simply pretty without trying too hard to make a statement. From tented ceilings and hand-painted details to beautiful textiles and interesting antiques, there is plenty to admire.
Beyond the beautiful interiors, the showhouse supports a cause close to our hearts, with proceeds benefiting the Brooklyn Heights Association and its efforts to preserve the neighborhood’s extraordinary architectural heritage. The showhouse is open through November 1st, and I highly recommend a visit.
We have rounded up some of our favorite rooms. Let’s have a look inside!
