You are right on target, as usual. I’ll have to say that I’m loving all of the white pumpkins. At first, when they were becoming popular, I wasn’t sure, but now I get it. They look great. And the pink and white and blue and white painted pumpkins are the bomb! Love those. Lots of good ideas here. Thanks!
I guess I’m a “Debbie Downer” but all I see is “maintenance”. I used to buy pots of mums for fall. Geeze, those things are thirsty! I was having to sometimes water them TWICE daily! By fall, I’m sort of “over” the daily watering of pots on my terrace, let alone doing it twice a day! As for those pumpkins…well, if you’ve ever had a pumpkin or a gourd rot on your front steps, you’ll know what I mean. These things rot from the bottom and you think they’re fine until you smell something, and try to pick one up. An unholy mess!
So, all this exterior fall decorating is lovely if one has loads of daily help to keep it fresh, or does it for a party and then pitches the entire thing. The problem with that is that pumpkins are heavy – all that hauling!
Thanks, but I’ll stick with my 25 year old, gorgeous artificial della robia wreath on my front door. The flower arrangements – now that’s something I can wrap my head around!!!
My favorite season! Thank you for providing these beautiful sites. Hands down you are the best blogger that I subscribe to so please do not stop. No one provides inspiration as perfectly as you do!
Beautiful and inspiring post as always Andrea. I love that each country has its own traditions vis a vis decorating with flowers etc: in many European countries especially France, Italy, Spain, Poland, pots of chrysanthemums are a symbol of mourning and are only ever used for placing on graves, especially at this time of year. They are never placed on the doorstep, in the garden or even found in a bouquet. You must never give a pot of ‘mums to your European friends! Here in U.K. there are no such associations with chrysanthemums and they’re about the only plant in flower during late autumn which makes them all the more welcome. We don’t tend to decorate with pumpkins here in the U.K.: there might be a kiddies-carved one on our doorsteps but I love that there are so many different shapes and colours available nowadays. Finally, before I bore you all to death: I grew up in Scotland in the 1970’s. Pumpkins didn’t exist then. We made turnip lanterns…my poor Mother hollowed out two turnips every year so us kids could go ‘guising ‘. Many thanks as always. Maria x.
What a beautiful post!! So many wonderful ideas! THANKS.
fabulosity!
