A Colorful and Charming Southern Abode

When a Georgia couple with a large empty nest decided to downsize to a 2,500-square-foot home, they hired architect Brandon Ingram and interior designer Mallory Mathison Glenn, to ensure it was full of vibrance and color. The 1950s home was tired and dated, so the dynamic duo set about transforming the exterior and interior.  Outside, Ingram added x-brace trellises, an eyebrow dormer, fresh paint, and green shutters. Inside, rooms were reconfigured for better flow, and Ingram worked closely with Glenn to coordinate architectural elements such as millwork and window casings.  Glenn infused cheerful colors and family heirlooms to create a home that is beautiful, livable, and perfect for entertaining.  “It’s just so livable and so easy. It’s a pretty house, but better than that, it’s a happy house,” the wife told Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles. Let’s take a tour with images from Glenn’s portfolio and from the May issue of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles.

  1. I LOVE this home. It’s fab inside and out! What gorgeous colors – all somewhat muted, but they pack a big punch. And so many little details on the lampsahes and the curtaians, the coral trim between the wallpaper and woodwork in the foyer, the repeated references to the lattice adorning the front of the house… I could go on and on. It’s just so lovely!

  2. Beautifully done but I’m confused. The exterior shot shows a front door with windows yet the foyer shot looking towards the door shows an entirely different one!

  3. This has certainly been a week of fabulous homes! This home is indeed a happy house, in my opinion a liberal use of color, pattern and textures make a happy house…all of that has been done to perfection in this home.

  4. I enjoy seeing these smaller homes more relatable. Very nicely done keep those smaller empty nester homes coming!

  5. A lovely and charming home that feels so serene. Oh how I wish they would share the paint colors, they are so delectable!

  6. Just lovely! The colors throughout. The varied door styles and colors of the kitchen cabinetry are quietly sophisticated. The details carried through on the french doors!

  7. You had me at Rose Medallion! What a creative display o f lovely pieces, definitely gives me ideas on how to use my collection more effectively! Love this house, love the colors! Sigh……

  8. I LOVE every aspect of this house…tastefully done, with great attention to the architecture and interiors, as they go hand and hand! Beauty is often found in the spirit of the homeowners and then the decorator and architect can channel that spirit into the home being created.
