Becky Nielsen Mixes Old with New in Los Angeles

Becky Nielsen is a rapidly rising star in the interior design world, and The Glam Pad fell head over heels in love with her work two years ago with the stunning dining room she created at the Southern Living Showcase Home in Nashville. Using Gracie wallpaper as her backdrop, the room circulated widely with ooohs and aaahs around Instagram. Today, Becky is sharing her latest work, a home in Los Angeles she decorated for a young family of five who relocated from Richmond, VA in the middle of the 2020 pandemic.

Becky and her team were able to do a fair amount of construction on the house while the family was “stuck” in Richmond, and then slowly added in furnishings and decor.  “We had a blast incorporating all of her family’s antiques and existing pieces into this more modern Los Angeles home,” she said.  “We used lots of old pieces mixed with new upholstery, carpets and drapery. She had lots of lovely accessories and art that helped the house feel more like a home.”

Today, Becky is taking us on a tour, exclusive to The Glam Pad!

Becky Nielsen

Becky created the blue and green living room with the goal of incorporating textures and patterns, providing this young family of five a comfortable space to lounge, play, and watch movies after dinner.

The dining room features Gracie Studios hand-painted wallpaper panels, an antique wood dining set and a traditional wood sideboard. Layered rugs add texture pattern play.

The focal point of the family’s large kitchen is the carrara marble island, which is softened with patterned upholstered bar stools and custom window treatment. Turn the corner and you’ll peek right into the blue banquette, the family’s comfortable hideaway for breakfast and coffee.

The library serves as a rich, textural space for the owners to entertain friends once their children have gone to bed. Tones of teal, coral, and Kelly green play off of each other to provide a jewel box effect.

The powder room is wallpapered in a tortoise motif by Schumacher, playing off the darker, luxurious tones of the library around the corner.

The expansive main bedroom becomes cozy and personal with a pair of reading chairs, monogrammed pillow shams, framed botanicals, and an antique armoire shelving second-hand classics.

The nursery and girl’s bedroom showcase Becky’s signature style, incorporating light, cheerful tones that provide a pleasant backdrop for playing, story time, and quiet afternoon naps.

Thank you, Becky, for the wonderful tour! This beautiful home is crisp, clean, and classic!
