Welcome to TGP Tidbits where we round up the happenings and our musings of the design industry each week. This week we take a look at Old Westbury Gardens, Lonny Magazine relaunch, and the newly renamed firmed of Bunny Williams. Written by Natalie Aldridge.

A Visit to Old Westbury Gardens

Old Westbury Gardens has held a dear place in my heart since my first visit a few years ago. While I had admired the historic estate for many years, it took me over five years of living less than thirty miles away to final visit! This past weekend I had the good fortune of revisiting this extraordinary home, below are some images I captured…

Built in 1906, Old Westbury Gardens was once the cherished abode of John S. Phipps, his delightful wife Margarita Grace Phipps, and their four beloved children. The mansion emerged from the creative genius of the renowned English designer, George A. Crawley, who envisioned the home Charles II style.

Inside, you’ll be greeted by a sight that will transport you to a world of refined grandeur. Adorned with exquisite English antiques and decorative arts collected over half a century, timelessness reigns supreme. The home is a stunning masterpiece inside and out.

Arguably the most enchanting component of the estate is the extensive and supremely maintained grounds. Nestled amidst 200 acres of sheer splendor, the home is enveloped by formal gardens exuding elegance, landscaping that will leave you in awe, and woodlands, ponds, and lakes that invite you to explore.

Old Westbury Gardens is more than just a house; it’s a treasure trove of history, charm, and the legacy left by the Phipps family. Every corner whispers stories of a life well-lived and cherished. Take a peek!

Lonny Magazine Relaunch

It comes with great excitement that shelter and lifestyle magazine Lonny Magazine, first launched in 2009, has announced its relaunch! The magazine was originally launched by Michelle Adams and the late Patrick Cline. The pair sought to capture the work of renowned design icons, embark on global travels to seek inspiration, and share the latest discoveries. Subsequently, Lonny was acquired by an exceptional company that elevated the brand to new heights.

In a serendipitous turn of events, the enigmatic Adams was presented with the extraordinary opportunity to once again take the helm of Lonny. With the world transformed since her previous tenure, both the design industry and the author herself have undergone significant evolution. Deeply fascinated by the allure of enduring design, sustainable lifestyles, and gardening, she holds a deep admiration for individuals whose unwavering passion defies fleeting trends and craft spaces that withstand the test of time. Additionally, the author draws great inspiration from those embracing a creative existence—expressing unique personal style, artistic prowess, and daring spirit.

These captivating themes will be the focal point of the newly relaunched Lonny. The magazine eagerly anticipates reconnecting with its readers and embarking on a shared journey of discovery. The Glam Pad looks forward to the newly reimagined magazine!

Williams Lawrence

With 22 years of experience at the legendary Parish-Hadley prior to founding her eponymous firm, Bunny Williams has been at the helm of the design industry for several decades. She has become a legend in her own right with numerous accolades, books, and more to her name. While conversations about partnership arose during her time at Parish-Hadley, it never came to fruition. Determined to create an environment that values talent and fosters growth, Williams, vowed not to repeat the same mistake within her own firm.

In 2017, Williams made good on her promise. Elizabeth Lawrence, a dedicated employee who had worked her way up from an intern, became a partner in Williams’s firm. Lawrence’s journey from intern to partner exemplifies her dedication and talent. With a shared reverence for the history of design, Lawrence’s partnership with Williams brings a new dynamic to the business.

Now, Bunny Williams has officially become Williams Lawrence, a change many years in the making. As Lawrence takes on an integral role, she ensures that the legacy of the firm is passed down. An evolution that symbolizes a commitment to collaboration, growth, and honoring the roots from which they draw inspiration. Together, Williams and Lawrence continue to shape the design world with their shared vision and dedication to excellence.
