Mapperton House & Gardens Virtual Tour

Julie Montagu, the American-born Viscountess Hinchingbrooke, has captured the hearts of many through her captivating portrayal of life at the Mapperton Estate, her family’s ancestral Jacobean estate. Situated amidst the picturesque surroundings of Dorset, this expansive estate was acquired in 1955 by Victor Montagu, Viscount Hinchingbrooke, and then passed to his son, The 11th Earl of Sandwich. Mapperton encompasses over 800 acres of land featuring sprawling gardens, the charming All Saints’ Church, a collection of historic out-buildings, the main residence, and the renowned 18th-century swimming pool.

With her vibrant American perspective, Montagu skillfully portrays both the enchanting beauty along with the less glamorous aspects of manor house living. Alongside her husband, Luke Montagu, Viscount Hinchingbrooke, she diligently works towards ensuring the profitability and preservation of the estate for future generations.
