A Classical Shindig Christmas

One of our favorite new books of 2023 is Classical Shindig: Amateur Artistry from the Simple to the Sublime, written by two of New Orleans’ most beloved hosts and concert pianists, Michael Harold and Quinn Peeper. The renowned British designer Henrietta Spencer-Churchill writes in the book’s foreword of their first meeting, “They were the perfect hosts and Gentlemen, and their passion for anything British, Classical, Historical, and Stylish became abundantly clear – thus, we hit it off immediately.” The Glam Pad shared the sentiment when we received their book!

Classical Shindig shares the dynamic duo’s authentic sense of style and design in their lush home and garden while exploring the joys of throwing unique and personal events. It is full of hosting, interior design, and entertaining tips and tricks that even an amateur can execute.

The Glam Pad was delighted to feature Michael and Quinn among our 2023 Holiday Tastemakers, and today we are thrilled to bring some Christmas inspiration straight from the pages of their new book!

The stockings—needlepointed by Quinn with armorial crest and trimmed with fox—were hung by the chimney with care. Ribbon-adorned amaryllis and hydrangeas rest upon the mantlepiece

Pop goes the Christmas crackers, and outcome the paper crowns. The Christmas tree illuminates the gold and white Spode china decorated with B. Viz Fortuny stockings. Homemade pomanders of citrus and clove fill the jardiniere beside pine cones and garland atop a Directoire plateau
Paul Smith’s signature striped tea set and car sit aside Fortnum & Mason’s mini mince pies and sweetmeats on a piercedVictorian tiered stand.
This Fortnum & Mason “Magnificent Plum Pudding” is filled with sweet, gooey plum jam, Marcona almonds, cherries, and rings of orangeson the sides. The celestial experience is completed with a sprig of holly and an extra flaming kick.
William Yeoward crystal crown, grape scissors, and Victorian grape rinser rest on a silver tray.

In the foyer, a majestic paper swan from Hazelnut glides upon Vitruvian waves of a gilt and marble George III console. The Louis XVI porter’s chair and neoclassical trumeau with a musical frieze from Balzac Antiques achieve a Swamp Palazzo welcome
