Tomorrow, Sotheby’s will be auctioning the inviable collection of Cornelia Guest’s Dodie Thayer lettuce ware, acquired by her mother C.Z. Guest. Beginning in the 1960’s this whimsical, handmade pottery became a staple amongst Palm Beach society ladies, including Mrs. Guest. Here is a glimpse of the auction’s treasures…
You can find a list of the lots included in tomorrow’s auction here along with additional Dodie Thayer pieces from the collection of Mary Sayles Booker Braga to be auctioned October 19-20. And it appears Sotheby’s has partnered with eBay for bidders who cannot attend the auction… I will take a tureen, please!
In 2012, Sotheby’s sold Brook Astor’s 218-piece set for $74.5K, and with the overwhelmingly successful release of the Dodie Thayer for Tory Burch collection earlier this year, I predict a tremendous amount of interest in tomorrow’s auction. In March, I wrote about Dodie Thayer’s coveted lettuce ware and her partnership with Tory Burch. I purchased the plates and serving bowls, and absolutely love them! Now I just need that tureen!

Great post Andrea!
Am surprised that Cornelia doesn't want it, since she is such a big vegetarian…! 🙂

Dean,
I love this story! I read that she is moving to a farm which she plans to turn into an animal sanctuary, and thus she is parting with many treasures not suited for her new home… http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/09/arts/design/cornelia-guest-sets-auction-for-contents-from-family-compound.html?_r=0. But I'm with you… there's no way I could part with the Dodie Thayer!
XOXO,
The Glam Pad
Andrea I adore this collection of Cornelia's from her Mother as well as the new Tory Burch pieces. This is indeed a lifetime opportunity and I wish I could participate!!
