Well we survived Hurricane Irma, and we were extremely blessed to have incurred minimal damage to our home. Unfortunately, many of our neighbors were not so lucky due to flooding. It is heartbreaking to see people emptying the destroyed contents of their homes… a lifetime of memories trashed by one vicious storm. The roads are still a mess due to all of the trees that were lost, power outages are ongoing, and internet is down (I am writing via Hotspot). Grocery stores are low on or out of staples including milk and bread, and finding gasoline is still hit or miss. My son’s preschool reopened today after being closed for a week and a half, and life is slowly getting back to normal… but we all have a long road ahead. And the emotional wear and tear will take time to heal as well. If you would like to give to those in need, please consider a donation to the Red Cross. Additional reputable opportunities to assist those impacted by Irma and Harvey are listed via Consumer Reports.
While it feels frivolous to be blogging about luxury homes in the midst of such devastation, The Glam Pad has always been an escape for me from the harsh realities of life. I believe thoughts and images of beauty can offer refuge and hope during times of despair. Therefore, today I have decided to revisit beautiful Boca Grande, Florida, one of my favorite places on earth. This is the home of Nancy and Bill Morton, as featured in the December 2012 issue of Architectural Digest with photography by Pieter Estersohn. The four-bedroom villa has been in the family since it was built in 1940 by society architect F. Burrall Hoffman Jr… Hoffman is known for creating several domestic showplaces of the early 20th century, notably Miami’s Vizcaya and Palm Beach’s Villa Artemis. Bill’s uncle, a Harvard professor, commissioned the one-story dwelling to escape Boston’s frigid winters. The Mortons were married at the home in 1984, and a few years later they inherited the property and decided to move in. Then the improvements began, led by Nancy who is the president of Ginger Lily, a Boca Grande interior design firm. Enjoy…

One wonders whether they sustained any damage in the storm. It would be a pity, as these interiors are so lovely. I recognize many of the images from Pinterest; most especially the Pillement-style toile decorative painting in the dining room. She certainly has a nice taste level, and the house looks comfy as well.
What an amazingly beautiful home!! So wonderful to have you back!!! Enjoy the morning with preschool back in session!! xoxo
Beautiful post!
Nice style and use of colors. I really like her plate wall. My heart goes out to Harvey and Irma businesses and people with destroyed homes. In my prayers
I literally checked each day since your last post to see if you were back and safe. So glad to know that all is well. It will be a long road to normal for many folks but growth occurs in times of personal challenge. Our prayers are with Texas and Florida, as well as our checks. Lovely post. Keep your chin up and give joy where you can to those around you.
Oh my goodness, thank you Mary! 🙂
XOXO,
Andrea

Hi Andrea,
I just came across your blog. I am an interior designer at Miami International Airport but worked most of my career in Coral Gables/Miami/Ocean Reef áreas in residential design. I am so glad that you feature our beautiful city of Coral Gables. It’s a slice of heave on earth! Keep up the good work!
Thank you, Cindy!! It is a special place indeed.
XOXO,
Andrea
