When updating a 1930s Buckhead home in Atlanta, architect William B. Litchfield and designer Jackye Lanham remained sensitive to the neighborhood, period, and style. Located on a street lined with grand and classic homes, this Colonial Revival cottage was the perfect fit for a lady who had lived on the very street as a child and was now moving back with her young daughter. The home’s proportions were good, but it required updates including a better flow and “a whole lot more charm.” While the renovation didn’t involve adding any square footage to the existing footprint, changes included enclosing a former screened porch, creating a guest room and cozy bedroom for the daughter using attic space, and replacing the staircase with one inspired by an 18th century design.
Jackie told Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, “I’ve known the homeowner since she was in elementary school. She grew up surrounded by traditional things and has a deep appreciation for them, but we also needed to use a light touch to keep the look young, fun, and to feel like her.” Let’s take a look inside with photography by Emily Followill…
