Lilse McKenna is one of my favorite Grandmillennial designers, and I was delighted to see House Beautiful‘s recent feature of the loveliest weekend getaway she designed. Located in a seaside town in Massachusets, the home had been divided into apartments over the years, so Lilse worked with locally-based RB Wood Contracting LLC to restore its original charm. Her clients wanted something no one else would have, which allowed Lilse to go all out with color, pattern, and one-of-a-kind custom touches. However, everything is low maintenance. “It’s the kind of place where you can have friends come stay without worrying about anything being damaged,” Lilse told Emma Bazilian of House Beautiful. “The fabrics are all stain and UV-treated, so if someone leaves the shade open, it won’t get faded; the vinyl wallcovering means that if someone scuffs a wall with their suitcase, it’s not the end of the world. And all of the rugs on the first two floors can be hosed off outside!” Let’s take a tour with photography by Read McKendree / JBSA…
