Designer Brittany Bromley’s 18th Century Home

August 17, 2020

When designer Brittany Bromley and her husband, landscape architect Matthew Bromley, came across a center hall Colonial built in 1790, they were enamored with its bones but terrified by its condition.  However, what they thought would be a decades-long project only took eight months and a lot of stamina to make it livable! Newly married, the Bromleys tackled the restoration with preservationist detail, installing era-appropriate touches whenever possible.  When finished, the house jump-started Brittany’s interior design career when her neighbors came to visit. She told House Beautiful, “When they saw what I had done with my home, they asked if I would do theirs. I said, ‘Well, do you know that I don’t even have a resale number?’ They said, ‘We don’t care. We’ll pay retail.’ ” Within six months, she had two employees and a dozen projects.

I am a huge fan of Brittany’s work, and I was delighted to see her beautiful home featured in the current issue of House Beautiful… Let’s take a tour with images from the publication and Brittany’s portfolio.

I love this house and rhe way she decorated it! So refreshing to see color and texture rather than the usual “gray of the day.”

Glad they were able to save the house! What a stand out kitchen — usually I don’t like black but wow, here it is gorgeous! Would like to see the house in its pre-renovation condition. Very beautiful and inspiring in general.

Where does she get all those glorious peonies?! Wonder if she grows them.
