When we bought our new home in Dallas, one of the key selling points for me was the master suite. It has beautiful vaulted ceilings, and the moment we walked in I knew it absolutely had to be enveloped top-to-bottom in Sister Parish‘s iconic pattern, Dolly, in blue. Bobby King wallpapered the entire room, including the ceiling, and June Brown made curtains, headboard, bed skirt, and canopy from the fabric. I cannot wait to share the results! In the meantime, let’s take a look at some beautiful rooms featuring Dolly…
But first! A little about the history of Dolly… Dolly is one of the most quintessentially “Sister” prints, and it brings a sense of old world charm to any space. The flowers and stripes harken back to halcyon days and this print can only be described as pretty, one of Sister’s favorites. “Dolly is an updated version of a historical print my grandmother loved and used in one of her dearest friends houses-hence the name Dolly,” said Susan Crater. “It is emblematic of the feminine, pretty and yes, botanical look Sister was always drawn to.”

Lisa Henderson‘s former master bedroom is what made me fall in love with Dolly in blue. Lisa was Cathy Kincaid’s protege, and I love everything both of these talented ladies do!

When selecting prints for my home, I tend to be drawn to the “story” or history almost as much as the aesthetics. I am a lover of history, and it makes me happy knowing I’m surrounded by one of the favorite prints of the legendary Sister Parish, the Grand Dame of the grande dame of American twentieth-century decorators. Dolly is truly a timeless classic that will never go out of style!

Pinterested the heck out of this article
The perfect alignment of the bed and wallpaper in the Lisa Henderson room is next level. The green and pink versions of Dolly appeal to me more, but they are all lovely.
It is delightful to see one pattern, with so many different looks! It just goes to show that a pattern with good bones is timelessly versatile.
And now that you’ve whetted our appetites, I am so looking forward to seeing your own rendition!! From your description, I know it will be GORGEOUS!
Love that wallpaper. Used it in a bathroom in home in Tennessee. Like seeing an old friend
Add me to the list of people who would love to see a pic or two or three of your bedroom, Andrea!
You’re so talented and smart !
Thank you, Dean! 🙂
