Heather Chadduck Hillegas for Colonial Williamsburg

The Glam Pad adores all things historic, and Colonial Williamsburg holds a special place in our heart. We are also huge fans of interior designer Heather Chadduck Hillegas, and today we are delighted to tour the Nelson-Galt house, which is the oldest residential dwelling located in Colonial Williamsburg and dates back to 1695. It was designed for the Designer in Residence collaborative initiative with WILLIAMSBURG, the licensing brand that celebrates the historic and iconic design influence of the Colonial Williamsburg museum.

As the current Designer in Residence, Heather, a Virginia native currently based in Birmingham, decorated Colonial Williamsburg’s Nelson-Galt house in her signature style, rooted in tradition and infused with relaxed elegance.

Without making any structural changes to the home—which dates back to 1695 and is the oldest residential dwelling in Colonial Williamsburg—her design reveals how a traditional interior can be updated and made livable for today. The design scheme features colors from the Williamsburg Paint Color Collection by Benjamin Moore, fabrics from Schumacher, and much more from the program’s sponsors, as well as a mix of custom furniture commissioned by Heather and antiques, art, and accessories from her personal collection.

Notable highlights include the kitchen with its beautiful Spicher & Co. floorcloth, Polycor soapstone counters, Circa Lighting chandelier, and Modern Matter brass cabinetry pulls; Schumacher’s blue chintz pattern in the twin bedroom; Mottahedeh’s Imperial Blue china on display in the dining room; and Global Views jars and Ferguson fixtures in the annex bedroom. The Carver’s Guild mirror in the primary suite bath is a stunning feature as well.
