Couture Curtains are Back!

June 11, 2021

There are so many wonderful features in the May-June issue of Veranda, and I was particularly delighted to read an article on well-dressed windows stating, “From pleated tails to tent flaps, lavish curtains with couture trimmings make a red-carpet return—with all the pomp of their predecessors.” The article showcases John Fowler and his protege Mario Buatta, who were masters with curtains, along with current designers embracing the style including Miles Redd, Alex Papachristidis, Alessandra Branca, Katie Ridder, and more.

Two years ago, I espoused my passion for Couture Curtains and Dressmaker Draperies, and after decades of minimalism, I am thrilled to see them return! Please click over to my post from 2019 to read more, and I have included a sneak peek of some of the curtains I designed for our new Dallas home below…

I read the same article last night and was thrilled to hear that dressmaker like window treatments were returning after years minimalist, or yet worse, naked windows eco!

Good news. I just got some beautiful Zoffany striped silk curtains for my dining room. Draperies finish a room. No doubt about it. Yours are lovely.

It just mentions you in context of women in DC wanting to be prominent in articles and on Glam Pad for their home décor. Its a novel but it bases a lot of the characters on real people in DC area. Author is Christine McDowell maybe she reads you or you met her somewhere.

Oooolala! I’ve personally never given up my beautiful drapes and curtains. For those of us fortunate to visit this year’s 2021 Kips Bay Palm Beach Decorators Show House there was an abundant display of their renewal!

Fabric drapes, shades and curtains always enhance a room. However, all environments do not lend themselves to such installations as they are also dust and pest collectors. All windows are not created equal. Those who live in apartment buildings often have no control over what windows are installed. As such, fabric treatments are not always a possible choice.

I agree the fancier, the better!! It’s like building a gorgeous home but the yard has NO landscaping.

As a retired installer, I find that most of my contemporary workroom craftsmen have also retired or passed. Where will the next generation of sewing talent come from?
