The Happiest Townhouse in Chicago

Last month I shared my excitement about FREDERIC, the new magazine produced by Schumacher, and a recently released home tour put such a smile on my face, I just had to share. This turn-of-the-century Chicago Townhouse belongs to Jenny Holladay, an interior designer for Summer Thornton.  The tour is just over six minutes and I have already watched it three times!

I love every single room, but I think the kitchen might be my favorite…

Also, exclusive to the magazine, is an incredible 1930s Lake Bluff, Illinois home that was originally decorated by Billy Baldwin and Frances Elkins. The legendary designers’ work had been unfortunately removed over the years, but designer Ruthie Sommers did an amazing job in bringing it back to life with a nod to the home’s storied past.

Online, you won’t want to miss FREDERIC’s tour of the Manhattan townhouse of Barbara and Kevin McLaughlin, founders of J. McLaughlin.

And I ADORED the tour of Shelley Johnstone’s beautiful Naples retreat!

  1. My first comment, though have loved The Glam Pad for ages!
This lovely kitchen is proof that you don’t have to have a $4 million dollar home with a ginormous kitchen you get lost in to make a real statement, and jamming an island into a small space is not always the best thing. Her table is the perfect compliment to the fantastic kitchen, and the yellow stripe is just what the space calls for. The whole house takes courage in this era of neutral, farmhouse, gray and SAFE design. Thank you for showcasing young women who love color and a little bit of flair, or at least cheery things. If I see one more sign that says “Gather” on it, well, I just don’t want to.

  2. The blue La Cornue range is magnificent in her kitchen. It really makes a statement. I love that blue. It’s worth the splurge!

  3. I love this lovely Chicago townhouse! So pretty and full of good energy! The design truly represents the unique owners’ unique expression of style. A great accomplishment!

  4. I start my day with a cup of coffee and my iPad linked to The Glam Pad. Thank you for your posts which make a happy start to my day. I love this town home and the tasteful decor that will transcend the test of time. It is so refreshing to see an abode that isn’t built on a grey/neutral pallet of the farmhouse style mundane. Keep your refreshing, exciting, lovely posts coming.

  5. I love the Chicago townhouse. It looks like a home that took years to put together. I expect her to walk through the house and say ” That was my parents chair and my in laws gave us the table.” It looks collected and not just purchased. I love the chandelier in the kitchen, it’s a great touch. And the master bathroom is gorgeous. Thanks for bringing us another great interior!
