Sotheby’s Fashion Icons Sale

Stealing the spotlight in the sale is none other than Princess Diana’s sensational Warm & Wonderful Black Sheep Sweater. This iconic garment holds an unrivaled position in the fashion world, as it was adored and adorned by the beloved Princess herself. The newly engaged Lady Diana Spencer first wore the sweater at age 19 to Windsor Polo in June of 1981. She would continue to wear the sweater throughout the years transforming it into a legendary garment. In 2020, Rowing Blazers collaborated with Warm & Wonderful to reproduce the Black Sheep design bringing the sweater back into the spotlight.

In March of this year, Joanna Osborne, the founder of Warm & Wonderful, was rummaging through the attic in search of an old pattern when she came across a small box. Alongside an old cotton bedspread, she discovered a red sheep sweater. Sotheby’s carefully examined the sweater, taking note of its condition, sleeve damage, and comparing it extensively to the 1981 photographs. As a result, they confirmed that this is indeed the very same sweater worn by Princess Diana over 40 years ago.
