Pretty in Pink Guest Suite by Rivers Spencer

Pink is a “trending” color this year, but it also happens to be a timeless favorite here at The Glam Pad. So when we saw Rivers Spencer‘s guest suite at the 2023 Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas, we fell head over heels for its sophisticated, feminine elegance. Spencer named her space “Les Fleurs du Marécage” (the Flowers of the Bayou) in homage to New Orleans and the geographic areas surrounding it—which is where Rivers Spencer’s design firm is located.

The main design element in the bedroom is the Philip Jeffries bespoke mural wallpaper depicting a panoramic scene of the bayou punctuated by florals. The trim and ceiling paint color, Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace OC-65 in a high gloss finish keep the space light and bright and maintain a crisp palette against the depth of color and visual interest of the mural. The space is very long and linear architecturally—using a single, unmodulated floor covering from Stark Rugs has the effect of making the room feel cozier as well as more cohesive as one moves from one area of the space to the next.

The bed is a classic, simple yet elegant design from Highland House furniture and is upholstered in a soft ivory Dedar velvet. The half canopy over the bed is finished with a Fabricut dupioni silk on the exterior, which matches the fabric of the window treatments from The Shade Store, and trimmed in Samuel and Sons cut velvet trim in ivory, while the interior of the canopy is draped in a contrasting Colefax and Fowler blush silk. In another nod to New Orleans, Rivers collaborated with Leontine Linens to create custom bed linens, which are trimmed in a border of magnolias and bayou white flowers and an intricate ‘RS’monogram.

The bedroom area of the suite is meant to be laid out like a luxury hotel suite mixed with the hospitality of a Southerner’s home, replete with all of the amenities a guest could require. The vignettes within the room showcase an ebonized antique desk and chair in one corner, adjacent to an antique Venetian mirror for dressing atop a sleek modern upholstered bench. At the opposite end of the room in front of the fireplace a pair of antique fauteuils upholstered in white cowhide sit tete a tete opposite a modern marble cube, while in the windows flanking the mantle a pair of antique columns topped with Rod Morehead sculptures complete the vignette with a nod of both symmetry and whimsy.

Finally, a custom lacquered bar sits across from the guests’ bed and to the left of the door to the bathroom. The decorated with decanters of liquor and a champagne bucket and complemented with a buffet of glass jars filled with candy.

The bathroom showcases the Kohler imperator freestanding tub in front of a marble tiled shower and marble baseboards and wainscoting throughout the room provided by Triton Stone Group. The floating double vanity fabricated out of Calacatta marble, also from Triton Stone Group, is accented with wall-mounted Kohler brass faucets that serve as the pièce de résistance.

The overhead lighting is a custom scaled fixture by renowned New Orleans lighting designer Julie Neill, while a single antique chair upholstered in a blush and gold Fortuny stripe with whimsical seat of rye grass sits next to the freestanding tub. New Orleans artist and the designer’s dear friend, Kevin Gillentine created a large-scale abstract for the space.

  1. The delicate, muted wallpaper is lovely. The white and blush color scheme in the bedroom is dreamy. I’m not so sure the late Queen Elizabeth would appreciate her portrait being hung in the water closet as if she’s viewing the people using it.

  2. I bought a large gilt and jasperware mirror to hang over a large wall mirror just like in the photo, but my husband wasn’t a fan. Now I’m going to try to convince him again. I wonder how they hang them without cracking the mirror behind?
