On The Market: 17th Century Newton House

Written by Natalie Aldridge

Happy Friday! To kick off the weekend on a high note, we’re treating you to a sneak peek inside a truly covetable countryside estate. Newton House, nestled in the charming village of Irnham in Lincolnshire, UK, has hit the market for the first time in nearly 400 years.

Dating back to the 17th century, Newton House embarked on its journey as a detached dower house. In 1699, it found itself under the lease of the Irnham Estate by none other than John Newton, a relative of the esteemed Sir Isaac Newton. Steeped in history, this distinguished residence has stood witness to centuries of change and evolution. With its Grade II-listed status, Newton House has undergone various additions and renovations, notably during the Georgian era. However, amidst these transformations, the home has managed to preserve its characteristic charm and grandeur.
While large in scale, the home exudes refinement and simplicity, with grand elements strategically placed throughout. In the true fashion of a country house, these details imbue the home with a cozy, family-oriented, and relaxed atmosphere. From the charming rusticity of the Plain English kitchen to the opulent comfort of the Fired Earth bathrooms, every nook exudes a delightful blend of warmth and character.
Having undergone recent meticulous restoration, Newton House now stands as a stunning testament to exquisite craftsmanship harmoniously intertwined with contemporary conveniences. A sense history truly lingers in the air of this home. Let’s have a look inside!

  1. I beg to differ in your assessment of the house. ‘Grandeur’ and ‘large scale’ do not describe this house at all. As English historic homes go, it is pretty modest. Those terms more adequately describe Blenheim or Burghley House.
