An Afternoon on Beauty
Two of our favorite arbiters of taste and living beautifully, interior designer Charlotte Moss and FLOWER magazine founder Margot Shaw, are coming together in Richmond this October for An Afternoon on Beauty, a celebration of interiors, gardens, flowers, and the art of living well.
The October 9th festivities begin at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, where Charlotte and Margot will sit down for a conversation celebrating their latest books: Charlotte’s forthcoming Charlotte Moss: At Home in Virginia and Margot’s Flowering Outdoors: Gardens & Parties, which came out earlier this year. Then, the evening moves to the magnificent Branch Museum for cocktails and an exclusive benefit dinner with the two design doyennes as guests of honor.
For Charlotte, a Richmond native, the occasion is something of a homecoming, and an especially fitting one as her new book offers a deeply personal look inside her own Virginia house and garden. Margot, meanwhile, has spent nearly two decades at the helm of FLOWER, championing the very things we hold dear: gracious rooms, glorious gardens, beautiful tables, and, of course, flowers.
Two fabulous new books, two women who know a thing or two about living beautifully, and an autumn afternoon in Virginia devoted entirely to beauty? We can hardly think of a better way to spend a Thursday. And consider this just a little taste of what’s to come. What’s New What’s Next
No matter how many years we’ve been out of school, September somehow always feels like back-to-school season. The city fills up again, calendars suddenly start to fill up, and the design world returns from its summer travels ready for a little fun.

Kicking things off is the return of What’s New, What’s Next at the New York Design Center on September 17th. Now in its seventeenth year, the annual design fête will take over 200 Lex with a full day of talks, new collections, book signings, cocktails, and the gathering of the design world. This year is particularly special as the New York Design Center celebrates its 100th anniversary.

The lineup includes Wendy Goodman and Isaac Mizrahi on what makes New York the design capital of the world, Ken Fulk and Stellene Volandes discussing the “well-dressed life,” Annabelle Selldorf unveiling her new collection for Munder Skiles, and plenty more familiar faces throughout the building. Tania Bulhões Latest Tableware Collection
While September may be just around the corner, we are not quite ready to surrender summer just yet. The days are still warm, the evenings are still long, and there is plenty of outdoor entertaining to be had before it cools down too much.
Luckily, Tania Bulhões is giving us every reason to keep setting the table outside. The Brazilian tastemaker’s new Botânica Collection celebrates the extraordinary flora of her native country, with stunning bromeliads and proteas coming to life across Limoges porcelain in brilliant shades of pink, coral, green, and yellow, all finished with touches of gold.
The collection extends beyond porcelain to glassware, linens, natural fibers, and hand-blown vases, creating a table that feels wonderfully lush without being overtly summery. Those rich botanical tones seem particularly perfect for these in-between weeks, when late-summer dinners begin stretching into crisp September evenings.
