It is probably pretty obvious by now that I am completely and utterly infatuated with Mario Buatta, the most highly celebrated interior designer of our time. If you missed my interview with him earlier this month, you can read it here. On Monday I featured a bedroom from a New York City apartment he designed featuring the beautiful Roses & Pansies chintz by Colefax & Fowler… and I just happened to track down the rest of the apartment from an old 2012 real estate listing. This home was never published, so you can imagine my excitement when I found it! I always love uncovering real estate listings of homes decorated by my favorite designers, especially Mario Buatta! This is a small pre-war apartment located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I wonder if the new owner got to keep the furniture?!
Absolute perfection, and truly a classic! It makes me think of Patricia Altschul‘s exquisite Charleston home which is probably my favorite of all time, also designed by Buatta. Completely fabulous, of course. What’s sad is that the new owners probably painted it all black and white and put minimalist nonsense in there and made it a boring repetition of every other modern apartment in America. Mario sure knows how to make it pretty, and comfy though, doesn’t he? He’s got the gift.
Beautiful! Cozy and everything looks so comfy… I just watched an old interview with him – he’s so charming and real – yet so suave! I can totally see his father being a successful bandleader!
Thanks for digging this up! I love his work. Always have.
Such a treat! Thank you for your diligent researching to find these gems…Every time I read one of your articles collectibles that I have had in drawers and closets start coming back out into our rooms and I am so glad….
What a treat to see an unpublished design. Keep up the good work!
What a treat! Thanks for digging up this treasure. Altschul’s 5th Avenue duplex is my all time dream apartment. They make a wonderful team.
