Sotheby’s Announces Mario Buatta Sale

December 30, 2019

The catalogue for The Mario Buatta: Prince of Interiors sale at Sotheby’s is online as of late last week! The sale includes furniture, fine art, and decorative objects from the legendary designer’s personal collection. Nearly 1,000 lots were curated from Mario’s Upper East Side apartment, his Connecticut house, and several storage units.  The collection includes:

  • English and Chinese Export porcelain
  • English pottery and Dutch Delft
  • English enamels, silver, and glassware
  • Numerous pieces of English and Continental furniture
  • An ensemble of fine art (including his well-known collection of dog paintings)

Lot estimates range from $500 to $50,000. The auction will be held on January 23 and 24 and is preceded by a public exhibition opening January 16 in Sotheby’s York Avenue galleries.  Please visit Sotheby’s for additional information and to view the catalogues.

    His apartment must have sold right away. I can’t find any listings for it, even on the Lenz Realty site. I’m curious to know how this sale will do. All the items are so iconic and well documented, and some have a double or triple provenance. Interesting! Love it all. He had such a good eye. I’m glad Emily was there to oversee the sale.
