GIVEAWAY + Style Profile: MADRE Dallas

by Lacelliese King

We’re a pair of old Grandmillennial souls, but every now and then, even The Glam Pad is ready to refresh and redecorate! We have some exciting updates underway, starting with a fantastic giveaway!

We are absolutely delighted to have partnered with the interior design mavens at MADRE Dallas as they celebrate an Instagram milestone on the heels of their recent cover feature in Southern Living, and not only have we collaborated for the mother of all giveaways: a $250 gift card plus to MADRE and two Liberty print wet/dry bags (perfect for pool and beach bag!), but we are also thrilled to welcome the Madres—Mia, Kerri, and Louise—who we get to know better in today’s Style Profile.

Keep reading to learn about one of our favorite Dallas design sources and to find out how to enter to win!

Q. Tell us about MADRE. How did you get your name, who are “the Madres,” and how did your business get started?

MADRE opened in 2015 and was started by Mia Brous, Kerri Goldfarb, and Louise Marsh: the MADREs. Basically we are three  great friends that all LOVE design and would spend our time together talking about fabrics, paint and rooms. We had done a small pop-up together and when a great location on W. Lovers Lane. opened up, we decided to jump on it and start our retail-design adventure! We are all moms and have 11 children between us. It seemed that no matter what we were doing, it all essentially came back to the main thread that we are mothers or “madres.” We treat our employees, clients, vendors and customers with care and compassion, so the name Madre seemed fitting and succinctly embodies who we are.

Q. What was your vision when you started, and how did you emerge into interior design?

MADRE was started on the premise that it is hard to find accessible, great design. When we were designing independently, a lot of clients would first come to us to design their nurseries. It is often times the first room many people get to design from scratch. There is no furniture coming in that you already own, and it becomes its own special space. It is such a wonderful time in peoples’ lives, and (the nursery) is a room that creates such lasting memories. We wanted MADRE to be a space where you could come customize any of your rooms and make it special.

Q. How would you describe your decorating style?

Our style is definitely a combination of elements. It is all about balancing the colors, patterns, and materials. We want our spaces to feel sophisticated yet playful, classic but not dated, layered but not stuffy, and most of all, create happiness for you or your family to love being at home!

Q. Where do you source inspiration and/or mentorship?

Inspiration is everywhere! We get most inspired by fabrics and wallpapers. We love different color combinations and patterns and how they play off of each other. There are so many wonderful designers with great work to be inspired by! We love Katie Ridder, Lisa Fine, Jeffrey Bilhuber, Mark Sikes, Miles Redd, Celerie Kemble… The list goes on and on. Take elements you love from rooms you see in books or Pinterest and try and bring those to life in your own way in your home. Louise and Mia actually did internships with Richard Keith Langham in New York, so I guess you could say he is definitely one of our mentors!

Q.What are your top 5 MADRE must-haves that you can’t live without?

We love everything we buy and make! If we don’t love it, we won’t sell it – That is our very sophisticated buying model! We can’t live without the big things like the MADRE upholstered headboards, daybeds and custom-made tables, and then our favorite small items we use every day: our Liberty pouches and mom-essentials like our heated neck wrap to relax with all the chaos and printed tablecloths to quickly dress-up the dinner table.

Q. What are some style/design elements that you think are distinct or signature to our decorating style here in Dallas?

Dallas seems to be on board with color which makes us very happy! Our clients and customers also seem to really appreciate their home life and want to make it a special retreat. Especially with Covid, everyone has spent more time together as a family, entertaining inside their home or in the backyard. We love that people here want to invest in making wonderful spaces!

Q. What’s your favorite…

  • Way to spend a girls’ night?  Talking about design 🙂 with cocktails and great music or always love an evening walk in summer!
  • Throw-on, everyday outfit? White jeans, sneakers or flats for running around and a colorful top!
  • Cocktail? Ranch Water or Palomarita
  • Lipstick color? Coral tones – we always love that color
  • Decorating splurge? Custom metal doors, mural wallpaper, custom lampshades on everything! Art you will have forever!
  • Guilty Pleasure? Extra-long salt baths and dark chocolate, late-night sister phone calls

Q. What are you currently working on that we can look forward to in the coming months?

We have so many fun projects! We have local clients needing small spaces redone to building whole houses, and we have lots of out-of-town clients needing help to create adorable kids’ rooms. Each client has a little bit of a different personality, so it is great adjusting our style to fit their vision and make unique spaces come to life for everyone! We can’t wait for June issue of PaperCity to feature one of our favorite projects. We came out with a needlepoint pillow collaboration and we are working on other styles and sayings that make great gifts. We continue to create new furniture pieces and headboard shapes so will see where the wind blows us!
