Asteroid City, Redd Kaihoi for Patterson Flynn, and A Dreamy English Abode

Welcome to TGP Tidbits where we round up the happenings and our musings of the design industry each week. This week we take a look at Wes Anderson’s latest film, Asteroid City, Patterson Flynn’s latest collaboration with Redd Kaihoi, and a dreamy English Abode that has just hit the market. Written by Natalie Aldridge.

Asteroid City

Renowned for his signature aesthetic, enchanting narratives, and idiosyncratic cast of characters, acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson possesses an unparalleled ability to whisk audiences away to meticulously crafted settings. Whether it’s the timeless allure of The Grand Budapest Hotel nestled in the fictional Republic of Zubrowka, the picturesque island village of Moonrise Kingdom set in charming New England, or the iconic scenes of The Royal Tenenbaums , Anderson’s cinematic backdrops never fail to captivate and delight.

Released on June 23rd, Anderson’s latest film Asteroid City has grabbed our attention. Set in a 1950s desert town, the captivating narrative revolves around Augie Steenbeck a widowed war photographer. Accompanied by his eldest son and enchanting triplet daughters, Augie embarks on a journey to the Junior Stargazer convention in the evocatively named Asteroid City.

With a visual style deeply rooted in Western Americana, the film works to capture the essence of this iconic era. And the sets, fabricated in Chinchón, Spain, have our design senses tingling. In classic Wes Anderson fashion, the vibrant colors, interiors, wardrobe, and every detail in between, is a feast for the eyes.

Let’s take a peek at some stills from the film!

Redd Kaihoi for Patterson Flynn

Last July the imitable Miles Redd and David Kaihoi of Redd Kaihoi released a fantastical collection of fabrics, wallcoverings, tapes, and trims with Schumacher. A timeless icon of the initial collection, ‘Deconstructed Stripe’, has now been transformed into a captivating rug by Patterson Flynn! While modern in its sensibility, we adore the rug’s effortless transition from understated contemporary spaces to impactful sumptuous rooms.

A Dreamy English Abode Hits the Market

Transport yourself to a bygone era with this meticulously restored former village shop that has just hit the market. Standing proudly since 1720, the abode underwent a delightful transformation from 18th century storefront into a haven of cozy comfort for a cherished family. Beyond its inviting honey-colored façade, the echoes of history resonate in the preserved fireplaces and exposed wooden beams adorning the interior.

Like something out of a fairytale, the home exudes the warmth and charm of yesteryear with its preserved fireplaces and exposed wooden beams adorning the interior. Within a charming ragstone terrace, the dwelling has two exquisitely designed reception rooms, a generously-sized country kitchen, and two picture perfect bedrooms.

The home sits in Winterton, Lincolnshire, a historic English town that once witnessed the presence of Roman, Viking, and later Norman settlements. At the heart of it all stands the revered All Saints Church, constructed around 1080, following the Norman Conquest of England. This idyllic dwelling fulfills the dreams of those who have longed for a countryside haven straight from the cinematic landscapes of Nancy Meyers’ timeless films and we can’t get enough of it!

  1. I’m intrigued by the mirrored fireplace screen. I’ve never seen that, and it is giving me ideas for our 1790 house…
