Instagram is so festive and fun this time of year! Scrolling through, there are certain accounts that catch your eye, and Laura Solensky Design stopped us in our tracks. We fell head over heels for her beautiful Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania home decked for the holidays in all its “traditional with a twist” finery! 

“I love decorating my home with seasonal touches and when it comes to Christmas, I really go for it! I love how magical a room feels with Christmas lights and garland,” Laura said. “My ultimate goal is to create a fun and cozy home during the holidays for my family.”

Laura, her husband, and two rescue pups – Pete and Henley – purchased their home as a foreclosure in 2017 and did a total renovation. She loves classic style in all things, especially interiors, and the traditional bones and floor plan of the home spoke to her.

“My personal home is a mix of patterns, colors and old /new. I believe your home should make you feel good,” she said.

Laura’s Christmas Decorating Tips:

-Simple decorations can make a big impact. A small wreath on a sconce, garland over a mirror, fill a bowl with ornaments or tinsel. These simple decorations really go a long way.

-When it comes to decorating a tree think beyond conventional ornaments. I love using dried hydrangeas, fruit and unexpected decor in my trees and garland.

-Add twinkle lights to garland and trees!

-Bows are always a good idea

Laura’s Christmas Traditions:

-After thanksgiving dinner, my husband and I watch our first Christmas movie of the season together with a cup of hot chocolate and piece of pie. (If we’re not too full).

-On Christmas Day, both sides of our family come to our house for dinner. We wear pajamas and play games, it’s a lot of fun!

-We host a Christmas cocktail party with friends every year. We enjoy good food,drinks, sometime games and each other’s company!

Her favorite Christmas song is “Have yourself a merry little Christmas” by Kenny G.

When Laura isn’t working with clients, she loves antiquing, gardening, reading, spending time with family and watching Bravo.  She and her family hope to find another home in the next few years with more land… And we cannot wait to follow her adventure!
