The Winter Show
January 19th signals the kick-off of The Winter Show, celebrating its 70th year milestone. Originating in the 1950s as an philanthropic endeavor for the East Side House Settlement, The Winter Show evolved into the preeminent annual showcase of antiquities, decorative arts, and innovative design, proudly becoming the leading show of its kind in the United States. This extraordinary event is curated by globally renowned experts in the fine and decorative arts industries.
Set against the backdrop of the historic Park Avenue Armory, The Winter Show will run from January 19th to January 29th. Amidst this artistic extravaganza, the Armory will play host to captivating lectures and lively cocktail parties, with the much-anticipated Young Collectors Night taking center stage. This year’s edition of Young Collectors Night will pay tribute to the visionary creative director of Carolina Herrera, Wes Gordon, and the talented glass artist, Paul Arnhold. This event serves as a platform fostering the growth of New York’s emerging collectors and passionate enthusiasts in the world of art and design.

Valentine’s Day with Chefanie
While we are just recovering from the rush of the holidays, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! Setting the perfect romantic tone, Stephanie Nass, known as Chefanie, has released her Valentine’s Day collection. Inspired by Salvador Dali’s legendary 1975 sofa, an artistic ode to Mae West’s lips, and his surrealistic jewelry, Chefanie’s collection artfully intertwines traditional Valentine’s motifs with a delightful twist.
The collection is fun and flirty with just the right amount of glamour. Whether it is for a loved one or simply great friends, get ready to entertain for season of love!
The Grand Hotel Carlton Varney Suite
For more than 40 years, Dorothy Draper & Company has celebrated a collaborative partnership with the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan, culminating in the unveiling of the meticulously redesigned Carleton Varney Suite. Carleton Varney, has left an indelible mark on world of interiors and most particularly The Grand Hotel, incorporating bold colors, imposing stripes, and audacious floral patterns since 1976.
Varney’s design philosophy, striking a balance between elegance and playfulness, beautifully embodies the essence of the Grand Hotel as a haven of high style during the summer season. Continuing Carleton Varney’s legacy, Sebastian Varney, President of Dorothy Draper & Company, and Design Director Rudy Saunders are dedicated to building upon the visionary foundation that has captivated guests for decades.
In the wake of Carleton Varney’s passing in July 2022, the Dorothy Draper team collaborated closely with the hotel to breathe new life into the Carleton Varney Suite, paying homage to his illustrious career. Positioned at the west end of the hotel with breathtaking views, the redesigned suite artfully reflects various periods in Varney’s design journey, creating a harmonious blend of past and present.
