Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse New York

The Kips Bay Decorator Show House has returned to the vibrant heart of the Big Apple for its 49th annual showcase. Esteemed interior designers eagerly undertake the task of transforming a luxurious Manhattan residence into a captivating exhibition of fine furnishings, contemporary art, and innovative design.

This esteemed event traces its origins back to 1973 when a dedicated group of supporters for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club launched the Decorator Show House with the noble aim of raising funds for essential after-school and enrichment programs benefiting New York City’s youth. Over the following decades, this initiative has blossomed into a cornerstone event for the design industry, extending its influence to other cities such as Palm Beach and Dallas.

For its latest installment, the showhouse has secured the iconic Upper East Side townhouse at 125 East 65th Street. Crafted in 1904 by the renowned architect Charles Platt, this historic residence stands as a testament to his architectural brilliance. Platt is known for his elegant yet functional homes and celebrated for his work with prominent families including the Roosevelts and Astors. Throughout its storied history, this distinguished abode has welcomed notable residents such as publishing magnate Henry Luce and Dr. Frederic Reed, a pioneering figure at Columbia University.

The showhouse opened its to the public on Thursday, May 2nd, and will run through May 28th. Let’s a take look a few of our favorite rooms!

Dôen for Gap

Nothing screams bohemian summer like beloved West Coast clothing company Dôen. Now, they’ve joined forces with the American icon, Gap, for an exclusive summer capsule collection. Noted as a celebration of sisterhood, the extensive 51-piece collection will offer both women and kids clothing seamlessly blending  Dôen’s aesthetics with Gap’s iconic styles. Despite bearing the prestigious Dôen label, don’t anticipate exorbitant prices. With pieces priced between $20 and $158, the collection remains in line with Gap’s customary offerings, ensuring accessibility without compromising on quality or style.
