For nearly five decades, Iris Apfel, the ‘rare bird of fashion,’ captivated the world with her fearless approach to aesthetics. Instantly recognizable by her signature oversized glasses, shimmering silver hair, and wrists stacked with chunky bangles, Apfel turned the art of dressing into a joyful expression of individuality. Her ability to mix bold colors, vibrant patterns, and unexpected textures transformed not only her wardrobe but also the broader landscape of design. She effortlessly blended couture with flea market treasures, crafting an iconic look that was unapologetically her own.

Christie’s is preparing to auction the personal effects of this beloved icon. Titled Unapologetically Iris: The Personal Collection of Iris Apfel, the online sale pays tribute to the boundary-breaking style maven. Open for bidding from January 28 to February 13, this extraordinary auction provides a unique glimpse into the world of a woman who transformed the way we view fashion, design, and self-expression.

Unapologetically Iris invites admirers to explore more than 200 curated pieces from Apfel’s personal collection, featuring her legendary fashion, statement-making accessories, and incredible interior pieces from her homes. This auction is not just a celebration of style but a tribute to the creative spirit of a New York legend.

For those eager to experience the collection in person, select highlights will be exhibited in Florida at the Miami Design District on January 24–25 and at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach from January 29–31. Christie’s New York will also host highlights from February 8–12, offering a final opportunity to view these treasures before they find new homes. Take a peek at some of the auction highlights!

In 2016, Architectural Digest featured Iris’ exquisite Park Avenue apartment, which you can tour here. Eclectic, whimsical yet timelessly elegant, her legendary style can be seen in every single inch. You can also step back in time to peek inside her apartment as featured by Architectural Digest in their March/April 1976 issue here.
