The 118th U.S. Open Championship began on Monday, and this year it is being held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Southampton, New York. So when Kelli Delaney from KDHamptons, sent me a link to golf legend Raymond Floyd’s Southampton estate – which is for sale – I asked her to please guest post today. Floyd won the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in 1986, and there is no doubt the Hamptons hold a special place in his heart. Built in 1999, the home features over 14,000 beautifully decorated square feet.
I am thrilled to welcome Kelli, who will take us on a tour of “Mulligan”…
Welcome to “Mulligan”. A magical 2.75 acre jewel located in the coveted estate section of Southampton Village. Boasting approximately 8K square feet of living space, the estate is composed of two single and separate contiguous properties, which feature a classic Hamptons shingle-style main residence with covered porches, decks, brick patios, sprawling gardens, a heated pool, tennis court and separate sizable guest house.
This type of property is rarely available in the Southampton estate section. The front of the primary residence has an long covered front deck, perfect for an afternoon Southside with friends. The dramatic entry foyer and main staircase opens to the back deck and gardens, allowing for glorious views straight through the home.
The spacious and sun soaked double living room with fireplace begs for casually elegant entertaining and opens to a covered outdoor porch facing the gardens. A cozy den/family room with fireplace connects to the formal dining room with fireplace that also opens to the deck with retractable awning. Mulligan is built for entertaining in style. A butler’s pantry connects to the chef’s kitchen and main pantry.
Head up the main staircase and landings to the master suite includes a cozy seating area with fireplace, a book cased wall with window seat, a large outdoor deck, two walk-in-closets, and a large master bath.
The guest wing offers one larger guest suite with an outdoor deck, and three additional guest suites with ensuite baths.
The guest house (below) can also be purchased additionally. Enter the charming foyer which looks into a large open living-dining area. A den and full bath are to one side. The lower level of the guest house includes a mirrored gym, half-bath and wine cellar, laundry facility and storage.
Over the garage, the staff quarters include a sitting room, loft, and two bedroom suites. Opposite, the open kitchen connects to a utility/laundry room and side entrance. Four guest bedroom suites, two with outdoor access, complete the second floor. The finished lower level offers an additional guest suite, a play room, and storage.
The outdoor patios connect to the white picket-fenced heated 40’x20′ Gunite pool, and beyond, tree-covered outdoor dining area, the Har-Tru tennis court. The gardens and lawn areas are contiguous between the two residences, and offer a wooden castle play set, rolling lawns, specimen trees, mature garden plantings, and fragrant fruit trees.
Wondering the compound is named Mulligan? In golf, a mulligan is a second chance to perform a stroke, usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder, whereby a player is informally allowed to replay a shot. Aptly named, this spectacular home is currently owned by golf legend Raymond Floyd, who actually won the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in 1986. Ironically, the Open returned to Shinnecock on June 11th again which has golf lovers bursting with excitement. Who knows, maybe moving into Mulligan can also improve your golf game?

oh this is heavenly!!! who designed the interiors?? covet….sigh
Absolutely stunning!
Sweet! Mrs. Lloyd really knows how to make an inviting home. It’s like a resort, with all of the bells and whistles.
Peaceful and serene with soothing tones of pale colors! Love, love, love this home!
Lovely colors! Adore the Lee Jofa curtain fabric – not sure if it’s “Hollyhock” or the smaller scaled “Althea”, but both are always just perfect in a summer house…or any house for that matter! I have Hollyhock as my own living room curtains.
Wait…hollyhock and Althea are not two names for the same fabric?
Everything about this house is perfection! Just breathtaking! Personal and real and cozy! I then read a bit about the owner – what a wonderful story!
Thank you sooo much for the guest post! So much fun to be a part of the gorgeous Glampad. I’m such a fan! xxo Kelli Delaney @KDHamptons
