The Perfume of Interior Design: 20 Top Designers Share their Signature Scents

The Glam Pad adores all things classic, and that includes our passion for perfume. While we will always cherish our “old school” favorites including Chanel No. 5FracasQuelques Fleurs, and Joy (sadly discontinued), we thought it would be fun to survey leading interior designers and uncover some new scents to explore… Just in time for Mother’s Day!

Below you will find the signature scents of 20 top designers, along with images from their portfolios selected to complement their favorite fragrances. Whether you are shopping for a loved one or for yourself, purchasing perfume online can be intimidating. We recently discovered Fragrantica which provides enlightening insight — not to mention an addictive rabbit hole — into the world of perfume! For an added touch, consider having your bottle custom engraved to create a sentimental treasure.

We hope you find a few new fragrances that pique your interest… And please comment below at the end to share your favorites as well!

SIGNATURE SCENT:
Diptyque Philosykos Eau

I have been wearing this scent for over 10 years and discovered it first in New York. I fell in love with the unique sweet yet peppery scent. Which honestly reminds me of so many of the spaces we design. Threading that needle of creating classic interiors with layers of unexpected elements!

OTHER FAVORITES:
I also adore The Nue Co. Functional Fragrance which is a scent my Husband and I both use. It’s a scent that was designed to help with stress and is the perfect unisex fragrance.

SIGNATURE SCENT:

I wear Agnes by Clare V. Which is now discontinued, which is why I’ve stockpiled 16 bottles to use until I find anything else that’s close! I actually bought this perfume for the first time in 2017 in LA with my dear friend and client while we were working on her home there. We love to shop together and I almost always think of her when I put it on. It’s a very clean smelling scent- almost unisex, with warm undertones. I was a child of the 90’s, so Calvin Klein’s first unisex scent “One” was probably a defining factor in my olfactory preferences!

OTHER FAVORITES:

I also love Bvlgari’s “eau de thè vert” which I wore for 20 plus years, and Bibbi’s “Ghost of Tom

SIGNATURE SCENT:

My favorite perfume is Maison Margiela ‘Replica’ Under the Lemon Trees. I love lemons as a motif in my interiors and textile designs, and of course in a yummy pasta dish, cocktail, or fragrance as well. My sister gifted the “Under the Lemon Trees” perfume to me before my wedding in Italy so I would have a scent to remember the weekend by. I wore it the whole time we were in Italy for our wedding and honeymoon, and now I save it for special occasions so it always brings those fun memories right back!

OTHER FAVORITES:

I also love Aerin Hibiscus Palm and Gucci Flora. I like to keep my makeup and beauty routine pretty minimal, so I gravitate to very light, floral, and citrusy scents.

SIGNATURE SCENT:
Gin Fizz” by Lubin

I discovered a new favorite fragrance this winter on vacation in Naples, Florida at my friend’s beautiful shop — Jett Thompson Home. It’s called “Gin Fizz”, and was developed in honor of Princess Grace in the 1950’s by Lubin, a French Perfumery. One spray and I was hooked on the lush bergamot and lemon notes! It smells like a Mediterranean holiday, clean and fresh for everyday wear. It’s new to me, but I love that it’s a classic green scent that’s been around for many years.

SIGNATURE SCENT:

My favorite signature scent is EAU CHIC in Rose. It is inspired by my love of MME.MINK and new to our collection.

This scent inspired time spent in France while illustrating for HERMES and the smell of Spring Garden Jardin des Tuileries. It reminds me of cabbage rose and hyacinth, fern and cherry. I adore everything about it. It fits perfectly with our Garden Party Aesthetic!

OTHER FAVORITES:

Another personal favorite is Coco Noir for its rich amber and illustrious evening appeal. I wear this when I wear sequins or to black-tie affairs.

SIGNATURE SCENT:

I don’t know if I would call either of these a signature scent, but I switch back and forth between Chanel Chance and My Burberry Black. I like both for different reasons…one feels fresh and sweet and one feels warm and inviting. These are all descriptors that I hope shows through in my design work as well.

SIGNATURE SCENT:

My favorite personal scents have changed over the years because my husband loves to gift me perfumes! I just love the sentimentality of this and so I love and wear what he picks out each time. He is very into scents, and so I love to see what he has chosen as a perfume gift for me and why he loved it! It’s fun to look back and see how my perfumes have changed with tastes and stages of life. Each scent feels representative of something personal.

OTHER FAVORITES:

I always love Hermès perfume!

SIGNATURE SCENT:

Roger & Gallet Cassis Frénésie is my favorite scent. It is a French pharmacie perfume that I found in my early 20’s while visiting Paris. Luckily, you can find it online now and it doesn’t take a jaunt to joli Paris for a new bottle. I love how bright, fresh and joyful this fragrance is. The description says it stimulates good humor and exhilarates the senses, which I agree with! The soft celadon color is lovely and right at home in my bathroom, which is all in celadon tones.

OTHER FAVORITES:

A scent that I’d like to try is the new Aerin Rose de Grasse Rouge which, to me, smells like a classic yet elevated rose water. In high school I loved Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater, and Rose de Grass is reminiscent of that. The striking red bottle would be a pop of glam to any dressing table!

SIGNATURE SCENT:

My signature scent is Agua Magnoliana by Fueguia. I have always loved the smell of florals and have worn rose scents for years. Recently, I traveled to London with friends and had the good fortune of discovering Agua Magnoliana by Fueguia in Harrod’s Salon de Pafums. I fell in love with this fragrance and have been wearing it ever since!

OTHER FAVORITES:

Previously, I almost exclusively wore perfumes from Fragonard after visiting its factory in the South of France in grade school. I still love their Rose de Mai as well as Yves Saint Laurent’s Paris.

SIGNATURE SCENT:

My signature scent is two-fold because I have had two fragrances… since… forever! All thanks to my darling husband, Stuart! Giorgio Beverly Hills and Coco Noir Chanel.

When our children were very young, Stuart traveled to LA on business 40 years ago. He wanted to bring me back a little something from Beverly Hills as a present. He loves shopping for me; I am a lucky girl! He strolled into the Giorgio of Beverly Hills shop and asked what they were famous for. Their response was their dress designs and a new perfume, Giorgio… which he bought for me. I was immediately enamored with the scent, and to this day, my three children and eight grandchildren love this perfume on me! My daughter in Berlin, Germany, sprays some on herself or her children when they miss not seeing me, as does my other daughter in Park City, Utah, with her girls!” too. They both keep a bottle in the guest bedroom. I always spray some inside the box when I send them presents, and on letters, they say it smells like “Meme’s love!”

OTHER FAVORITES:

I started wearing my second perfume, Coco Noir Chanel, when my children left the nest. Stuart was in NYC on business 20 years ago and walked into a Chanel store and asked if they had a new perfume. They showed him Coco Noir, he tried it on, liked it, and bought me a bottle. I love it too! I tend to wear Coco Noir in the evenings, when I am going out, because it is a slightly more intense, serious scent, whereas the Giorgio is a lighter daytime scent, in my opinion. But, truth be known, I just adore both of them!

Holly Holden Collection by Gramercy Atelier New York — Gramercy Atelier

I just launched a new dress line, the Holly Holden Collection, in collaboration with Maria Pucci of Gramercy Atelier in NYC. This silk jacket and dress in the collection are handpainted, bespoke “Orchids of Worth” (since I live in Palm Beach) design she created for me when I gave a talk to the Garden Club of Houston, Texas. The flowers remind me of the happy scent of Giorgio of Beverly Hills!

This chinoiserie-inspired cabinet in the powder room at our “Petite Fox” apartment on Worth Ave in Palm Beach has my two favorite scents readily available. Which one will I wear for the day?!!

A little arrangement with light and airy “flouncy flowers,” which reminds me of Giorgio of Beverly Hills. This is in the living room at Petite Fox, Palm Beach.

I designed this ballgown for my HH Collection with Gramercy Atelier as the Chair of the Centennial, White-tie “Paradise Ball” for the Salvation Army of Palm Beach; 450 guests danced the night away. This was most definitely a Coco Noir Chanel evening!

SIGNATURE SCENT:

I love how scents can immediately evoke nostalgia and for that reason my favorite perfumes were discovered while traveling – their scents always remind me of a happy memory. My current favorite is Le Labo Thé Noir 29, a scent I discovered while perusing shops during a weekend away in Greenwich, CT with my husband. I identify with the nuanced depth of the scent – a juxtaposition of softness and strength. I am always working to hone in on the tension between masculine and feminine, pretty and cool, delicate and strong in my designs and my wardrobe and I feel like this daily scent really captures that.

OTHER FAVORITES:

Some of my other favorites are Dior’s Jasmin des Anges, a perfume I purchased while on a trip to LA years ago and Creed Spring Flower, a gift from a fleeting high school boyfriend.

SIGNATURE SCENT:
Peony & Blush Suede by Jo Malone

My favorite scent is the Peony & Blush Suede scent by Jo Malone London! I wear it almost everyday and its the perfect scent to layer with other perfumes! I started wearing this scent 15 years ago when i heard that Princess Kate was huge fan of the Jo Malone fragrances so i had to try it out myself!

The story behind The Jo Malone Peony Suede is that it reminds me of scents from my childhood! When i was child any time i opened a new doll or Barbie doll it always smelled like Peonies to me which i love.

OTHER FAVORITES:

I do adore the new Guerlain Insolence Fragrance as well! It has violet and orange blossom!

OTHER FAVORITES

I like the Old School perfumes… There are times I still wear Joy by Jean Patou.

SIGNATURE SCENT:
Officine Universelle Buly Mexican Tuberose

I have worn this perfume consistently for eight years. Over the years, I have traveled to France for the Marche Aux Puce antique fair. Before attending the fair, I typically allocate 1-2 nights in Paris. While I typically stay on the right bank, one day, while exploring the left bank, I discovered “Officine Universelle Buly,” where I encountered my new favorite fragrance.

My fondest recollection tied to the fragrance centers on my first trip to “Officine Universelle Buly.” The apothecary store transports one back in time several hundred years.

My personal living room and dining tablescape convey the essence of Officine Universelle Buly Mexican Tuberose. This space as a true representation of my taste and style.

SIGNATURE SCENT:
L’Art & La Mattiere Herbes Troublantes Eau de Parfum

I gatekeep my perfumes so this is big for me and the best of all time for the freshest smell of all time.

Scent is a big thing for me. Since I was a little girl obsessing over Limited Too and Gap body spritz. Smells bring me so many memories and take me back to certain times of my life. They are timestamps to me. This fragrance is a more recent one that I found this summer with my grandmother in Newport Beach. We both smelled a woman walking by us and looked at each other saying the exact same thing, “did you smell her?” so we had to ask!

OTHER FAVORITES:
Hermes does no wrong and the same applies to their perfume. I have several favorites by them but Voyage D’ Hermes reigns supreme.

Kimberly-Whitman

Kimberly Schlegel Whitman

I am a “seasonal” perfume person! For spring and summer I like light clean scents. For Fall and Winter, I prefer something a little more musky or spicy. I always select a perfume to suit my mood.

For spring and summer I love:
Asprey Purple Water
Amouage Guidance
Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino
Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess

No one else does floral scents like Aerin Lauder. I love every one of her Rose and Peony fragrances.

For Winter and Fall:
Pierre Bourdon Iris Poudre for Frederic Malle
Juliette Has a Gun Sunny Side Up
Hermes L’Ambre des Merveilles

We also have a fabulous CREED boutique at NorthPark in Dallas now and I can’t wait to go in there and play with all of their amazing scents!

I know that is a lot! I have a “wardrobe” that I like to play with. My favorite time to put perfume on is just before bed. It feels like such a luxury and a little treat for myself.

Step Inside a Dallas Designer’s Historic Office Space

We are huge fans of Dallas-based interior designer Josh Pickering, founder of Pickering House Interiors, so naturally we jumped at the opportunity for an office tour and interview. A Texas native, Josh developed a passion for design early on in life. Trained in architecture and a designer by trade, he firmly believes in the unity of the architecture and interiors process. After graduating with a degree in architecture, he made the immediate shift into the world of interior design. Following time spent in Texas design firms, and then several years working with legendary designer Bunny Williams in New York, Josh established his design firm, Pickering House, in 2016.

Click to watch The Glam Pad’s exclusive Office Tour and interview with Josh!

From the beginning, Josh wanted to create an office that was like one of the rooms he would design. The office building is a century-old eclectic Mediterranean, which provides a welcome contrast to the highly-edited nature of his high-rise apartment. When you walk in, the walls are covered in watercolors from past projects. The conference room is a blend of styles; the lacquered Belgian chests, mid-century table and refurbished chairs, the Spanish chandelier and neoclassical console that he personally refinished all work harmoniously to create a whimsical and cozy atmosphere. The gravitas and gusto of the more substantial pieces is contrasted by the soft background of the damask linen-upholstered walls. The juxtaposition of layers fosters creative energy as he thinks outside of the box for client projects. The warmth of the terracotta color in the office paired with the white furniture and abundant daylight creates a bright and happy atelier.

“Creating this workplace haven was so important to me because the energy of the environment you work in influences the work that you do,” said Josh.

A Billy Baldwin Auction, the Henry B. Anderson Mansion, and Bloomingdale’s La Double J Pop-Up

Welcome to TGP Tidbits where we round up the happenings and our musings of the design industry each week. This week we take a look at Christie’s Paris Billy Baldwin auction, the Henry B. Anderson Mansion, and the La Double J Pop-Up at Bloomingdale’s. Written by Natalie Aldridge.

Empire of Taste, A Billy Baldwin Auction

Earlier this week, Christie’s Paris held a landmark auction entitled Empire of Taste, featuring the contents of an apartment meticulously designed by Billy Baldwin. In the late 1960s, the esteemed American decorator embarked on crafting the Madrid apartment for a refined Spanish family, finding himself amidst the twilight of his illustrious career. The couple, then in their thirties and with three young children, sought Baldwin’s expertise due to his acclaimed work with icons such as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Greta Garbo, Barbara Hutton, Pauline de Rothschild, and Babe Paley.

This project went on to be emblematic of his enduring career. Despite nearing retirement, Baldwin fondly recalled this endeavor as yielding “one of the most fulfilling client relationships” of his career. Fast forward over fifty years, and the remarkable contents of this exquisite residence have now graced the auction block. Comprising of 127 lots, ranging from tiger-print Louis XV chairs to a 1953 still life by Bernard Buffet, these items serve as a testament to Baldwin’s timeless design sensibilities, the discerning taste of his clients, and his ever present influence on interior design.

Have a look at some of the highlights!

The Henry B. Anderson Mansion

A remarkable Gilded Age mansion has recently entered the market, offering a unique glimpse into New York City’s rich architectural history. Known as the Henry B. Anderson Mansion, the home is tucked away in the prestigious Upper West Side neighborhood, just moments from Riverside Drive. This extraordinary residence was meticulously designed in 1897 by the esteemed master builder and architect, Clarence True.

Sitting on a rare 43-foot-wide lot, this magnificent brick and limestone mansion exudes New York City history, while its interiors transport you to a world of enchantment, reminiscent of a storybook setting. Though not perfect, there’s an undeniable cinematic quality to its distinctive interiors. Spanning six stories and boasting an impressive 31 rooms, the home showcases unparalleled craftsmanship, intricate design details, and an abundance of old-world charm.

Part of an exclusive row of seven upscale residences, this home stands as a testament to the grandeur of its era. Positioned at the northeast corner of Riverside Drive and West 80th Street, these townhouses were conceived in the Elizabethan Renaissance Revival style, characterized by a romantic fusion of architectural elements and materials. While the row was completed in 1898, No. 323 had already exchanged hands prior to its completion, acquired by real estate operator Charles H. Davis. Renowned for his collaboration with Clarence True, Davis likely played a role in shaping the home’s interior design. Intriguingly, Davis’s wife, Ida, was also active in real estate. Upon the home’s completion, Charles transferred ownership to Ida, for a hefty sum of $20,000, equivalent to roughly $651,000 in today’s currency.

In subsequent years, the mansion found its place in the hands of wealthy physician H. Edward Russell. However, in 1916, it underwent a change of ownership, acquired by its namesake, Henry B. Anderson. Following Anderson’s son’s marriage, the mansion became too vast for his needs, prompting its sale in 1922. Sadly, the new owners opted for renovations the following year, transforminging floors three through five, and one apartment occupying the top floor. With this transformation, the era of millionaire occupants drew to a close, marking the end of an illustrious chapter in its storied history.

La Double J Pop-Up at Bloomingdale’s

JJ Martin, the mastermind behind Milan’s celebrated fashion and home brand, La Double J, at Bloomingdale’s brings in a new era of vibrant design on American soil. True to her renowned style, JJ Martin has brought her bold patterns and lively hues across the Atlantic, infusing the Bloomingdale’s space with her unmistakable flair. In her latest venture, Martin has curated a captivating shop-in-shop experience, reminiscent of the charm of a Milanese bistro, right within Bloomingdale’s home floor. Spanning a cozy 200 square feet, this pop-up space echoes the spirit of La Double J’s flagship store in Milan, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a world of playful elegance.

At the heart of this enchanting space lies an exquisite selection of tabletop creations and home textiles, each adorned with Martin’s signature prints and motifs. From 18-karat gold-trimmed porcelain pieces to handblown Murano glassware, every item exudes sophistication and whimsy in equal measure. Among the highlights are the Ancap printed porcelains and Napoli color-blocked napkins, offering a vibrant touch to any dining occasion. With a kaleidoscope of exuberant colors and prints to choose from, this collection is a testament to Martin’s commitment to infusing every home with joy and personality.

Whether you’re hosting a lavish dinner party or simply seeking to add a touch of flair to your everyday life, the La Double J pop-up at Bloomingdale’s promises to inspire and delight. Be certain to stop by Bloomingdale’s to experience the magic of Italian style without ever leaving the heart of New York City. Marvelous Moiré

Moiré is currently experiencing a resurgence, much to our delight. Derived from the French verb “moirer,” meaning “to produce a watered textile by weaving or pressing,” it boasts an unpredictable rippling pattern. A longstanding fashion staple, it has graced regal courts and modern ballrooms for centuries, remaining a timeless addition to interior spaces. Traditionally crafted from silk, its inherent sheen enhances its water-like allure.

Goehring Museum of Vancouver, Evening Dress, c. 1863

In recent months, we’ve witnessed the revival of this historic and extravagant fabric in both interiors and fashion. This resurgence may be attributed to a contemporary fascination with classic style or even the aesthetic associated with affluence—think “old money style.” Another contributing factor could be modern production techniques that eliminate the need for expensive silk. Viscose has now become the preferred material for moiré, undergoing a process involving moistening and calendaring through patterned rollers under high temperature and pressure, resulting in a glossy-matte appearance. This not only enhances its appeal but also its durability, making moiré an ideal choice for upholstery and wall coverings. It brings opulence and refinement to spaces without straining budgets.

We’re enamored with the delicate yet glamorous essence of moiré. It exudes a solid sophistication while offering a hint of intrigue with its distinctive wood-like grain. Check out the video below for a fascinating glimpse into the process.

Style Profile: Hageman Homes & Interiors

Written by Natalie Aldridge.

Welcome, Rhiannon!

Q: When and how did you first become interested in interior design?

A: As my mother’s interior designer reminds me often “you cared about the wallpaper selection at 3 years old!”. I have always been extremely creative, first in music as an opera singer and then later with design. After the birth of our son Henry, I was absolutely desperate for a creative outlet. Travis (my husband and business partner) and I had dreamed about building homes together when we were retired, and my parents urged us to just go for it. They knew I had a creative gifting (thankfully Travis also had years in the construction industry) and needed to find somewhere to put that energy. I completed a very basic diploma program online to get my feet wet and then jumped head first into our first project – a large build Travis and I undertook together to create a portfolio. I have loved every minute since, it is what I am meant to be doing. Our business has grown and changed since that day but ultimately the goal has stayed the same – to build beautiful homes and interiors for our clients to enjoy for generations.

Q: How do you define your style?

A: My aesthetic is less about a certain style and far more about capturing emotion or feeling. I feel very blessed to have grown up in a beautiful, loving home and that is something I try to build into every project. The sense of security a collected home brings is a wonderful gift. In a few words, it’s classic, layered, soulful and deeply personal.

Q: What designers inspire you?

A: My dearest girlfriends, all over North America, who lift me up, answer the questions I don’t know, teach me and encourage me both in life and work. I have been so blessed by the generosity of this industry. Numerous designers have shared their resources, business skills and encouragement with me and that has shaped my business immensely. There are also so many beautiful designers from the past I have learned from studying their work – Albert Hadley, Frances Elkins, and Robert Kime to name a few favourites. Being self taught has meant studying in order to learn and train my own eye, something I deeply enjoy.

Q: How do you describe your personal style and where do you find inspiration?

A: My personal style is a balance of elegance and ease. I love to surround myself and our children with beautiful things but constantly remind them things are never too precious to be enjoyed, lived in, spilt on, chipped etc. – this is the English blood in me I think! I love colour, specifically muted and muddy pastels and am always surrounding myself with those. I feel quite comfortable in edited clutter and thankfully so does Travis!

Q: Do you have any favorite go-to paints, wallpapers, linens, artists, etc.?

A: I often select paint from Farrow and Ball or Donald Kaufman Colour because the colour selections are just so beautiful and already edited for you. I love textiles, especially English fabric houses such as Bennison, Robert Kime and George Spencer.

Q: Where do you enjoy sourcing antiques and art?

A: I can’t lie – 1st Dibs is an incredible resource. I am not specific and trust my own gut instinct when it comes to what I like or don’t like. Often our clients come with beautiful collections we get to work with. For art, I love a great mix. I think contemporary art and photography is a wonderful way to shake up my very traditional aesthetic.

Q: What are you working on next that we can look forward to?

A: We have started taking and traveling for larger projects all over North America – working at a distance poses its own challenges but it brings us great joy to connect with families in all areas, during all walks of life, and build them beautiful spaces. Travis has been studying with the ICAA and will soon be writing exams locally so that he can stamp architectural drawings. His passion is truly classical architecture and I am overjoyed to see him pursue it, and for what it means for our clients.

Q: What has been the most challenging (and the most rewarding) part of developing
your business?

A: Developing our business, while working together as husband and wife, raising two young babies, has come with many challenges. Understanding how to run a design build business
took time, so did learning the more technical skills of design. Building a career which honestly I never though I would have has been so rewarding – and building it with Travis at my side has been the ultimate gift. We are wonderful partners both in life and work. Every time we see the joy our work brings to clients, it is incredible. Ultimately, finding a job that never feels like work is something I will be forever grateful for.

Q: What are your favorite China and silver patterns?

A: I have recently started collecting Royal Copenhagen Blue Fluted Lace pieces. For silver – I could’t tell you, all the sets we have are antique or mismatched pieces from my grandmother!

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

A: I love to spend time with our children, our friends and our family. We entertain a lot at home – I love to set the table and plan the event and Travis executes while I chit chat. I love to cook and bake with my children, walk with my sisters and mom and we’re starting to enjoy weekends gardening in our new home! We love to travel and continually be inspired all over the world.

Rhiannon, it’s a pleasure to have you with us today! We’re absolutely enamored by your portfolio!

Dolce & Gabbana’s New “From the Heart to the Hands” Exhibition, A Stanford White Gem, and Pratesi for Stubbs & Wootton

Welcome to TGP Tidbits where we round up the happenings and our musings of the design industry each week. This week we take a look at Dolce & Gabbana’s New “From the Heart to the Hands” Exhibition, a Stanford White gem for sale, and Pratesi for Stubbs & Wootton. Written by Natalie Aldridge.

Dolce & Gabbana’s New “From the Heart to the Hands” Exhibition

Italian fashion heavyweight Dolce & Gabbana has unveiled a mesmerizing exhibition extravaganza at the illustrious Palazzo Reale museum in Milan. From April 7 to July 31, this opulent showcase gives a glimpse into the haute couture arm of the brand, affectionately known as alta moda, dating back to its grand debut on the runways of Taormina, Sicily, in 2012. Channeling “la dolce vita,” the exhibition is not just about fashion but also a love letter to Italy and the essence of Italian artistry.

Step into a captivating journey through a succession of immersive chambers, where you’ll delve into the contrasting inspirations that fuel the legendary designs of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Highlighting pivotal masterpieces from their Alta Moda, Alta Sartoria, and Alta Gioielleria assortments, the exhibition will also showcase contemporary artworks crafted in response to the visionary creations of Dolce & Gabbana. This curated juxtaposition traces the evolution of innovation from inception to fruition and beyond, inviting reflection upon the enduring impact of their artistic vision. From commissioned paintings to glittering Murano and Venetian glass chandeliers, and the timeless elegance of Byzantine mosaics—every detail of the exhibition captures the deeply interconnected influences of Italian couture and culture.

If you find yourself in Milan, be sure to wander your way through the exhibition for an unforgettable experience. Tickets can be purchased here.

A Stanford White Gem

It’s always a delightful experience when a home in your own neighborhood hits the market. Having walked by 127 East 73rd Street countless times and admired its classical facade, when it came onto the market this past week, I couldn’t wait to have a peek inside this historic home. In 1904, Charles Dana Gibson, creator of the Gibson Girl, enlisted Stanford White to craft a 22-foot-wide Neo Federal mansion, adorned with Doric columns and a majestic mansard roof, showcasing the epitome of Gilded Age opulence.

Renovated to contemporary standards, every inch of this abode exudes elegance. Overseen by interior designer AD 100 Ellie Cullman of Cullman & Kravis, the home spans over 10,000 square feet with six bedrooms and top-notch amenities, including a basketball court. The grand entry leads to a sprawling kitchen and a garden oasis complete with a waterfall and al fresco dining area, offering a picturesque retreat. From the soaring ceilings of the parlor floor to the luxurious primary suite on the third floor, every corner of this home is meticulously maintained, seamlessly blending historic architecture with modern comforts.

While I am a fan of historic homes that have hardly been touched and require an immense amount of work, this Stanford White gem is a rare case of preservation and tasteful modernization. Let’s take a look inside!

Pratesi for Stubbs & Wootton

Just as the weather begins to warm and our thoughts turn to dreamy Amalfi coast getaways, the esteemed Italian linen house Pratesi has joined forces with the cult classic loafer brand Stubbs & Wootton to unveil a bespoke collection of made-to-order women’s and men’s slippers, mules, and clutch bags perfect for summer.

Echoing the ethos of Dolce & Gabbana, both of these powerhouses prioritize impeccable craftsmanship. Crafted with meticulous care in Spain, each piece in this collection is handcrafted with the utmost of materials. Adorned in opulent jewel-toned velvets and Pratesi’s sumptuous terry cloth, these creations epitomize a harmonious blend of luxurious comfort and sophistication. A Stubbs & Wootton diehard myself, I cannot wait to get my hands on a pair of these chic loafers!

Cozy Cape Cod Charm

Built in 1858, this delightful sea captain’s house on Cape Cod is proof that bigger is not always better, and that classics never go out of style. Melody Borghesani and her husband Dave longed to retire on the coast so when they found their dream home on Zillow, they decided to take the plunge! The 1,200 square-foot house retained all of its Cape Cod charm, boasting original hardwood floors and architectural nooks and crannies throughout. In an effort to maintain as much of the home’s integrity as possible, the couple embarked upon a minimal update consisting mostly of paint and powder.

Kitchen cabinets were painted Benjamin Moore Decorators White, and a small dishwasher and new gas range were added. To cover the “black hole” where the previous oven was located, Melody added a simple white curtain. This timeless space is proof positive that a white kitchen will never go out of style!

Melody filled the home with a combination of her own collected antiques and furnishings, and the rest were thrifted from auctions and even Goodwill. Artwork includes oil paintings by Melody’s mother along with other original paintings and antiques she has collected over the years. The result is a home that while magazine-worthy, is designed for comfort and as the perfect destination for family gatherings and grandchildren.

Cottages & Bungalows stated, “In the era of the modern farmhouse and other design trends, Melody’s house-by-the-sea truly captures the essence of days gone by with warmth and character,” and we couldn’t agree more! Let’s take a look inside…

Kitchen Before

Click below to see a before and after video of the kitchen… It is proof that a white kitchen will never go out of style!

Kitchen After

And below is a tour of the kitchen after minor updating… Gorgeous and timeless!
