The Glam Pad’s Last Minute Christmas Shopping Guide
One of our favorite new books of 2023 is Classical Shindig: Amateur Artistry from the Simple to the Sublime, written by two of New Orleans’ most beloved hosts and concert pianists, Michael Harold and Quinn Peeper. The renowned British designer Henrietta Spencer-Churchill writes in the book’s foreword of their first meeting, “They were the perfect hosts and Gentlemen, and their passion for anything British, Classical, Historical, and Stylish became abundantly clear – thus, we hit it off immediately.” The Glam Pad shared the sentiment when we received their book!
Classical Shindig shares the dynamic duo’s authentic sense of style and design in their lush home and garden while exploring the joys of throwing unique and personal events. It is full of hosting, interior design, and entertaining tips and tricks that even an amateur can execute.
The Glam Pad was delighted to feature Michael and Quinn among our 2023 Holiday Tastemakers, and today we are thrilled to bring some Christmas inspiration straight from the pages of their new book!

We know you will love this exquisite book as much as we do! Classical Shindig is complete with thirty recipes for every occasion, QR codes for recorded movements of their concertos given in support of community causes, illustrations by acclaimed artists Paul Cox and Tug Rice, and delightful stories all the way from Mississippi County, Arkansas, to the oak-lined streets of New Orleans. Between adventures in piano concerti with orchestras and entertaining New Orleans’ natives, the British monarchy, and everyone in between—there’s nothing these two won’t do to celebrate their love of food, music, and people.
Welcome to TGP Tidbits where we round up the happenings and our musings of the design industry each week. This week we take a look at The Six Bells Soho pop-up, Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year, and Salvesen Graham for Yolke. Written by Natalie Aldridge.
The Six Bells Soho Pop-Up
The Six Bells, a charming storybook-inspired country store specializing in homewares, has unveiled a picture perfect pop-up shop in Soho, Manhattan. Under the vision of Audrey Gelman, the founder of The Six Bells, a cottage-core fantasy has come to life. Inspired by the whimsical village of Barrow’s Green, The Six Bells draws creative inspiration from this fictional hamlet nestled in the English countryside, with a modest population of just 640 residents. Images courtesy of The Six Bells.
In this picturesque town in the English country side, visitors encounter a manor house, a vibrant high street dotted with shops, a tranquil meadow where sheep graze, quaint beehive cottages crowned with thatched roofs, and a village green that sets the stage for cricket matches and annual fetes. The community is further enriched by a weekly newspaper, The Green Evening Chronicle, chronicling the tales of a diverse cast of unique characters with intricately woven backstories, which can be explored further here.
The Six Bells radiates an emotional connection to the rural landscape it draws inspiration from, weaving together a diverse set of brands. The store proudly showcases creations from quilt makers in Alabama, textiles originating in West Dorset, and ceramics crafted in the Sarthe Valley, offering a truly eclectic and delightful shopping experience.
The Six Bells pop up is officially open on 138 Wooster between Prince and Houston! It will be open this week from 11am-6pm and from 12pm- 6pm all of next. Be sure to stop in for all you last minute Christmas gifts and decor needs!
Pantone Color of the Year 2024
Pantone has unveiled Peach Fuzz, a subtle hue that falls beautifully between pink and orange, as the Color of the Year for 2024. Each year the color authority introduces a new hue that symbolizes the anticipated year ahead. Whether or not this color prediction holds true, it consistently sparks anticipation and enthusiasm within the design industry.

As per Pantone, Peach Fuzz isn’t just a color; it’s a cozy embrace, stirring compassion and weaving connections among people. According to Leatrice Eiseman, the maestro behind Pantone’s color magic, Peach Fuzz embodies belonging, sparks recalibration, and opens doors for nurturing moments. This shade isn’t just about visuals; it’s a comforting source that echoes profoundly, adding to a state of being that’s harmonious and balanced.
The allure of Peach Fuzz, a feminine hue with lively undertones, has garnered The Glam Pad’s enthusiasm. Striking a harmonious chord between pink and orange, it proves to be a wonderfully versatile and surprisingly easy color to work into a home. What do you think of Peach Fuzz?
Salvesen Graham for Yolke
Fresh off the heals of their smashing collaboration with Sanderson, the British interior design powerhouse Salvesen Graham is back with an exclusive holiday collaboration, this time teaming up with the London-based brand Yolke. Starting as a boutique sleepwear brand in 2013, Yolke has since expanded into women’s wear, children’s wear, and home goods known for a refined touch and an unmistakably British essence.
In a true meeting of the minds, this collection seamlessly merges refined florals and timeless heritage prints, infusing them into a delightful range of bed linens, pajamas, robes, and accessories. Each piece radiates charm, embodying the flawless blend of style and charisma that Salvesen Graham and Yolke effortlessly exude.

Instagram is so festive and fun this time of year! Scrolling through, there are certain accounts that catch your eye, and Laura Solensky Design stopped us in our tracks. We fell head over heels for her beautiful Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania home decked for the holidays in all its “traditional with a twist” finery!
“I love decorating my home with seasonal touches and when it comes to Christmas, I really go for it! I love how magical a room feels with Christmas lights and garland,” Laura said. “My ultimate goal is to create a fun and cozy home during the holidays for my family.”
Laura, her husband, and two rescue pups – Pete and Henley – purchased their home as a foreclosure in 2017 and did a total renovation. She loves classic style in all things, especially interiors, and the traditional bones and floor plan of the home spoke to her.
“My personal home is a mix of patterns, colors and old /new. I believe your home should make you feel good,” she said.
Let’s take a peek inside and get to know more about Laura, along with her Christmas decorating tips!
Laura’s Christmas Decorating Tips:
-Simple decorations can make a big impact. A small wreath on a sconce, garland over a mirror, fill a bowl with ornaments or tinsel. These simple decorations really go a long way.
-When it comes to decorating a tree think beyond conventional ornaments. I love using dried hydrangeas, fruit and unexpected decor in my trees and garland.
-Add twinkle lights to garland and trees!
-Bows are always a good idea
Laura’s Christmas Traditions:
-After thanksgiving dinner, my husband and I watch our first Christmas movie of the season together with a cup of hot chocolate and piece of pie. (If we’re not too full).
-On Christmas Day, both sides of our family come to our house for dinner. We wear pajamas and play games, it’s a lot of fun!
-We host a Christmas cocktail party with friends every year. We enjoy good food, drinks, sometime games and each other’s company!
More Christmas Favorites:
Laura’s favorite Christmas movie is “The Holiday”.
Her favorite Christmas song is “Have yourself a merry little Christmas” by Kenny G.
When Laura isn’t working with clients, she loves antiquing, gardening, reading, spending time with family and watching Bravo. She and her family hope to find another home in the next few years with more land… And we cannot wait to follow her adventure!
Welcome to TGP Tidbits where we round up the happenings and our musings of the design industry each week. This week we take a look at MAE New York’s latest collection with Scalamandré, the annual Park Avenue Tree Lighting, Dorothy Draper Stockings, and our Holiday Tartan Edit. Written by Natalie Aldridge.
MAE for Scalamandré
This year, Scalamandré boldly embarked on a new creative venture, injecting a burst of fresh life into their iconic Zebra motif. Those fabulous Zebras, once confined to the realms of printed fabric and wallcoverings, have undergone a magical transformation in the form of fashion. Born out of a collaboration with Sarah Mae Ettinger, founder of MAE New York, the pair dropped a limited collection featuring four garments in a jacquard incarnation of the iconic print. The Glam Pad fell in love and just in time for the holidays, they’ve unleashed a brand-new colorway of these charismatic zebras, now gracing three classic MAE pieces. Take a look!
The full collection can be found here and is expected to ship mid-December.
Park Avenue Tree Lighting
Each year the Upper East Side of Manhattan gathers for much cherished event of the Park Avenue Tree Lighting at Brick Church. This beautiful tradition began in 1945 with a group of Park Avenue families who sought to pay tribute to the men and women who had valiantly sacrificed their lives during World War II. Their solution was to adorn the thoroughfares of the avenue with illuminated Christmas trees for the holiday season.
Needlepoint by Rudy Saunders
Today, the radiant trees, gracing the medians between 54th and 97th Streets, stand as enduring symbols of peace and poignant reminders of the sacrifices made to achieve it. Each year, on the first Sunday of December, the Fund for Park Avenue and Brick Church unite the neighborhood in a heartwarming celebration. The event features Christmas carols, uplifting messages, and endless holiday cheer, ending in the grand illumination of the trees.
Despite the misty weather, this year’s festivities proved to be as enchanting and magical as ever!
Dorothy Draper Stockings
Christmas is fast approaching, and it has taken us by surprise. If you’re still on the hunt for the perfect stockings for your mantel this year – we have just the ones for you. Dorothy Draper is offering Christmas stockings in four of their iconic prints: Brazilliance, Akakina, Shannongrove in Blue, and Shannongrove in Yellow.
Our Holiday Tartan Edit
Last week, we delved into Grandpa Chic, a trend that’s sweeping through the design world. Although we typically shy away from trends, this one has genuinely captured our attention, especially for the holiday season, as it perfectly bridges the gap between tradition and reinvention. With opulent hues, weathered leather, treasured heirlooms, and motifs inspired by Ivy League aesthetics, it evokes sophistication without stiff formality.

In honor of “Grandpa Chic” and embracing the classic holiday spirit, we have put together our favorite tartan finds if the season. Shop below!

At The Glam Pad, we typically approach trends with caution. Nevertheless, when an intriguing “trend” emerges, we feel compelled to delve into it, exploring its rise and intricacies. Occasionally, a trend surfaces that embodies a revival or reinterpretation of a timeless aesthetic rather than a transient style. Enter Grandpa Chic: the carefully curated aesthetic that strikes an impeccable balance between elegance and comfort. In recent years, there has been a significant resurgence of heritage-inspired style. The Grandmillennial movement that began in 2019 has inspired other nostalgic “trends” such as Coastal Grandmother, Quiet Luxury, and Grandpa Chic being the latest iteration.
Comparatively, Grandpa Chic represents a more masculine and relaxed interpretation of these classically driven trends. Think deep, rich tones, leather, heirlooms that well loved and worn, tartan, and Ivy League motifs, all with a lingering scent of your grandfather’s cigar. This comfortable yet highly refined style evokes told-school social clubs, inviting you to step inside and linger without the stuffiness.
As advocates for heirlooms, cherishing timeless elegance, and embracing old-fashioned charm, The Glam Pad wholeheartedly embraces this trend. It achieves an ideal balance between sophistication and informality, granting the freedom to incorporate inherited pieces in a relaxed manner, seamlessly blended with the comforting elements we all adore. Grandpa Chic embodies the essence of the country club while leaving pretension at the door.
Below are some tips on how to achieve Grandpa Chic in your Christmas – or year-round – decor..
Bring on the plaids! A tartan pillow here and throw there is all you need for that bit of heritage and warmth. But if you are feeling daring, go for it with tartan wall coverings and fabrics.
Nautical and equestrian, or even rustic elements are always welcome.
Focus on classic red and green and all things traditional for Christmas decorating.
Wood paneling and deep red brick is your friend!
Use your china and silverware. There is no need to wait for a special occasion. And a little tarnish never hurt anyone.
Keep your grandfather’s big leather chair.
Cozy is key… Layer blankets, pillows, rugs, and candles with plenty of heirlooms and antiques.
Family pictures in silver frames and traditional oil paintings add generational depth and lend an air of nostalgia.
Adhere to a “collected” and maximalist approach. Needlepoint, tortoise, malachite, velvets, and leather make excellent accents!
The Glam Pad adores this timeless “trend”! What are your thoughts on Grandpa Chic? To learn more about what trends are hot this holiday season, check out Etsy’s 2023 Holiday Trend Report.
Welcome to TGP Tidbits where we round up the happenings and our musings of the design industry each week. This week we take a look at a beloved annual Holiday Home Tour in Dallas, the new JAMES showroom, Eerdmans seventh annual holiday bazaar, and The Glam Pad’s top advent calendars of 2023. Written by Natalie Aldridge.
ABPA Homes for the Holidays
Each year, the ABPA Homes for the Holiday tour proudly features four homes in Highland Park and University Park dressed in their holiday finest and open to the public. If you are in Dallas, you won’t want to miss tomorrow’s tour!
In the past 20+ years, the ABPA has raised more than $1M for the kindergarten and first grade classes at Armstrong & Bradfield elementary schools with the Homes for the Holidays Home Tour. Please click here for ticket information, and a sneak peek inside this year’s featured homes can be found below…
The JAMES showroom has made its way to the Big Apple! Nestled in the iconic Interior Arts Building on East 61st Street, the 4,000 square foot space aims to redefine the city’s design landscape. With a curated collection representing the pinnacle of craftsmanship in fabric, wallpaper, lighting, furniture, and rugs, the Texas-based showroom brings a touch of Southern charm to the bustling design district.
The choice of the Interior Arts Building is a testament to JAMES’s commitment to heritage and community. The building, home to prestigious galleries, antique dealers, and design businesses, perfectly aligns with JAMES’s boutique sensibilities. Founder Meredith Ellis, who started her career in this very building 25 years ago, brings a full-circle moment to the showroom’s history. JAMES is rooted in relationships and aesthetics more so than geography, making for a unique and inviting atmosphere where design enthusiasts can discover new lines. It’s interiors feel more like home than a showroom.
The decision to set up shop in the Interior Arts Building isn’t just a strategic move; it’s a nod to design history, with legendary figures like Bunny Williams as neighbors. Meredith and Hunter Ellis are eagerly anticipating what lies ahead, as the expansion aligns seamlessly with the progressive growth of Meredith’s interior design business.

Today we will take a look inside the home of one our 2023 Holiday Tastemakers, Sara Hillery! Let’s take a look inside, with photography by Alison Gootee (after the sales below)…
