Interiors: Styled by Mieke ten Have

Leading interiors stylist Mieke ten Have developed a passion for interiors as a little girl, captivated by and inquisitive about the emotions certain places evoke. From her grandmother’s Federal-style dining room to summers spent in Maine, to her family’s chintz-laden Manhattan apartment, Mieke’s childhood was surrounded inspiring interiors. Today, she is a leading interiors stylist, design writer, and creative consultant. After years working as a magazine editor, which included positions as Home Editor of Vogue Magazine and Design Editor at Large of Elle Decor, Mieke parlays her editorial point of view into creative direction for interior designers, architects, and home brands.

In her newly released book, Interiors: Styled by Mieke ten Have, Mieke shares her techniques for teasing out the elements of a home that make it compelling, beautiful, and alive. The beautiful book identifies and explains the four principal elements that she always takes into account: Color Theory, Pattern Play, Wild and Tame, and Flowers for Living.

Interiors: Styled by Mieke ten Have

She illustrates each of these principles with images of rooms that she has styled for such noted designers as Stephen Sills, Mario Buatta, Alberto Pinto, Rita Konig, and Victoria Hagan in a wide variety of homes and locations. Then Mieke demonstrates how she applies these concepts, season after season, in her own country home, the Barn, where she lives with her husband and two children.

Using the Barn as a backdrop, Interiors: Styled by Mieke ten Have demonstrates how to apply her interwoven styling principles over the course of all four seasons.

ten Have treasures the glass-front cabinets in her kitchen. “Plates are wonderful objects to collect,” she says. “Not only because you can enjoy looking at them but also because you can use them every day… If the interior of your cabinets is visible, consider arranging them as you would any other space in your home, taking into account scale, color, and pattern.” Photographer Frank Frances Digital Tech Olivia Demetros

Rich, atmospheric images by photographer Frank Frances document the evolution of the house, capturing the distinctive light, mood, colors, tonality, and textures of each season. Both aspirational and inspirational, Interiors: Styled by Mieke ten Have provides countless design ideas for beautifying our surroundings throughout the year.

Hints of neon orange in the stick lampshade and roses speak to the artwork above the desk but, more importantly, energize and modernize the classical Zuber wallcovering in a gorgeous living room designed by Billy Cotton, photographed by Simon Watson.

“My favorite book as a child, which in retrospect had an outsize impact on my path, was Min Hogg’s 1988 edition of Interiors: The Eight Major Decorating Styles Seen in Today’s Most Beautiful Rooms. I ceaselessly studied those rooms, filled with collections of oddities and colors and textures,” ten Have shares in her book.

A monochrome kitchen designed by Billy Cotton, photographed by Simon Watson. “By adding only an all-white arrangement of ranunculus and lilacs in a white ceramic basket, flanked by two Italian white candelabras, I maintained the holistically immersive feeling of the room; the eye doesn’t linger on any one thing, but rather on the varying textures of the high-gloss walls, the shiny checkered-chintz fabric, the smooth yet textural floor, and the glistening chandelier. The room embraces you in its totality, and the monochromatic styling accessories enhance that experience,” ten Have explains.

Available via Amazon, Interiors: Styled by Mieke ten Have is a beautiful coffee table book any design enthusiast would enjoy having in their collection! Please visit Mieke ten Have for additional information, and follow @mieketenhave on Instagram for ongoing inspiration.

At Home with Elyce Arons of Frances Valentine

Written by Natalie Aldridge.

Elyce Arons, co-founder and CEO of Frances Valentine, is no stranger to the power of color. Her journey began in publicity and marketing, but she changed paths as one of the founding forces behind the iconic Kate Spade brand. Alongside Kate Spade, Kate’s husband Andy, and Pamela Bell, Elyce launched the beloved company from the modest confines of a downtown New York apartment.

When Elyce first crossed paths with Kate while attending the University of Kansas, she could never have imagined that the polo-shirt-clad Missouri girl would not only become her best friend but also profoundly shape her destiny. Dorm-mates and fast friends, their lives revolved around fraternity parties and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Yet within a decade, they were hustling together in New York City—working day jobs and pouring their nights into creating a line of handbags that would ultimately redefine the accessories industry.

After selling Kate Spade, the duo set their sights on a new venture, Frances Valentine. Following the untimely passing of the beloved Kate Spade, Elyce has carried their shared vision forward, transforming Frances Valentine into a vibrant, vintage-inspired brand celebrated for its bold use of color and timeless femininity.

Today, we’re thrilled to offer you a glimpse into Elyce’s wonderful world.

And click below for a fabulous video tour with Homeworthy!

For continued inspiration from Elyce, follow along on Instagram. And do not forget to pre-order your copy of We Might Just Make It After All, Elyce’s story of friendship with Kate, set to be released in June 2025. I know I can’t wait to read it!

Also, Frances Valentine is currently offering up to 75% off through their Warehouse Sale, and 10% of sale profits will be donated to The Red Cross to support LA relief and rescue.

Unapologetically Iris: The Collection of Iris Apfel

For nearly five decades, Iris Apfel, the ‘rare bird of fashion,’ captivated the world with her fearless approach to aesthetics. Instantly recognizable by her signature oversized glasses, shimmering silver hair, and wrists stacked with chunky bangles, Apfel turned the art of dressing into a joyful expression of individuality. Her ability to mix bold colors, vibrant patterns, and unexpected textures transformed not only her wardrobe but also the broader landscape of design. She effortlessly blended couture with flea market treasures, crafting an iconic look that was unapologetically her own.

A Tudor Revival: Restoring Elegance and History in Louisville

When designer Jessica Kain Barton’s parents moved back to Kentucky from California and purchased a historic Tudor in Louisville’s Douglass Highlands neighborhood, they knew the perfect person to decorate their new home. The project was a labor of love for Jessica, founder and principal of J. Kathryn Interiors, whose passion for design began in childhood as she pored over her mother’s home magazines. Today, this historic home stands as a testament to Jessica’s attention to detail and a seamless blend of heritage and modern living.

This Tudor’s charm was unmistakable, with its leaded glass windows, rich mahogany woodwork, lush green surroundings, and deep Mahogany woodwork throughout. Yet, years of unsympathetic remodels had stripped it of much of its original splendor. Jessica approached the project with a clear vision to restore the home’s architectural integrity while reimagining it as a functional and inviting space.

The journey to rehabilitate started by bringing in material from the time period it was built such as reclaimed terracotta tiles which bring a sense of warmth and patina. Restoring the original plaster walls which added a subtle texture to each space and selecting the perfect white paint to complement the original millwork made all the difference. Selecting textiles and furnishings that were a slightly modern take on the traditional interiors brought everything full circle.

Avid readers and collectors of Shaker furniture, Jessica’s parents dreamed of spaces for lounging, entertaining guests, and spending time with their grown children. The solution was an array inviting nooks and thoughtfully designed spaces, each tailored to their needs. Among the home’s treasures is a hidden jewel-box china closet, inspired by the couple’s wedding china, a sentimental detail that speaks to Jessica’s commitment to crafting spaces that tell a story.

Furnishings and textiles were curated to strike a balance between the traditional and the contemporary, allowing the past and present to exist in perfect harmony. This deliberate approach brought the home’s interiors full circle, restoring its character while making it livable for today.

More than a residence, this Tudor is a revival of history, a blend of charm and function that encapsulates the ethos of J. Kathryn Interiors. This home has reclaimed its rightful place as a true gem of the Douglass Highlands.

Welcome to TGP Tidbits where we round up the happenings and our musings of the design industry each week. This week we take a look at the estate of Baroness Rawlings, Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach 2025, and Serena & Lily’s New Year Sale Written by Natalie Aldridge.

The Estate of Baroness Rawlings

Nicknamed the “Baroness Thrift” for her tips on managing a stately home on a budget, Baroness Patricia Elizabeth Rawlings is back in the spotlight with the upcoming auction of her from her London property, and the historic collection of Adlington Hall in Cheshire.. A woman of many chapters, Lady Rawlings has captivated interest with her stately homes, including Burnham Westgate Hall, designed by Sir John Soane, and her tenure in the European Parliament. She even made headlines in 1971 when her ex-fiancé, American oil tycoon, dramatically demanded the return of £250,000 worth of jewels.

Thomas Bardwell (British 1704-1767), ‘Views of Adlington Hall and Park’, oil on canvas, a set of four

Set to go to auction January 22nd at London’s Dreweatts, the Eaton Square collection is a testament to her impeccable taste and cosmopolitan sensibility. As a former President of the British Antique Dealers’ Association, she selected each piece with an expert eye for beauty and historical significance. This collection is truly a masterclass in harmony, contrast, and beauty.

Highlights of the auction include Marie Laurencin watercolors, Lynn Chadwick’s abstract bronze Magnette for the Trigons, Marc Chagall lithographs from Exodus, and a stunning 18th-century giltwood console table. This auction offers a rare glimpse into a life lived with a deep appreciation for art, history, and the enduring stories behind every piece.

A Chic Louisville Shop, London’s Winter Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair, and a Happy New Year!

Welcome to TGP Tidbits where we round up the happenings and our musings of the design industry each week. This week we take a look at Tate Reynolds’ chic new venture in Louisville, London’s Winter Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair, and wish everyone a Happy New Year!. Written by Natalie Aldridge.

Tate Reynolds’ Chic New Venture

A stylish new gem has opened its doors in Louisville, and we’re thrilled to share it with you. After spending 15 years in New York perfecting his craft at Ralph Lauren, Tate Reynolds returned to his hometown in 2019 with a bold vision. At Ralph Lauren, he transitioned from menswear to Ralph Lauren Home, where he designed luxurious textiles and bedding in collaboration with some of the world’s finest mills, weavers, and artisans. This experience not only deepened his appreciation for exceptional craftsmanship but also shaped his signature style: a love for textiles and an undeniable talent for creating warm, layered spaces.

This fall, Tate unveiled his new design studio and shop, a space that feels more like stepping into his home than a workspace. It’s a treasure trove of original art, antiques, and curated finds, designed to inspire. From classic English antiques and primitive American artifacts to mid-century gems, the mix is undeniably Tate. Thoughtful, unexpected, and endlessly charming!

Textile lovers will swoon over the rugs, custom pillows, and reupholstered furniture, while art enthusiasts can browse a rotating collection of hard-to-find pieces. Even the details have a story—like a custom work table by a local craftsman and a flower vanity fashioned from a vintage farm sink.

The back of the studio is where the magic happens. There is a wonderful fabric library, a spacious work table for client meetings, and a private office where Tate brings his visions to life. Whether you’re a collector, a designer hunting for that perfect piece, or just curious, the studio is open Tuesday through Friday, 11:00am to 4:00am, or by appointment.

If you’re in Louisville, be certain to check it out! And do not forget to visit his website here and follow along on Instagram for on going inspiration.

London’s Winter Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair

Mark your calendars! London’s winter edition of The Decorative Fair is just around the corner. This triannual event transforms Battersea Park into a treasure trove of style, where over 130 dealers gather to showcase their incredible wares. Think antiques, fine and decorative art, and modernist design in abundance. From stately 18th-century furniture to sleek 20th-century finds, plus a sprinkling of contemporary paintings, prints, and sculptures, the offerings are a meticulously curated celebration of craftsmanship.

Globally renowned, this fair is a siren call for design aficionados, sharp-eyed collectors, and anyone who knows their Windsor chair from their Wassily. Of its three annual editions, the winter fair is the perfect way to start the new year—a veritable feast of inspiration. Having had the pleasure of attending the autumn edition this year, I can confidently say it did not disappoint. The prices were fair, and the goods were remarkable. Whether you’re hunting for a striking piece of art, a future heirloom, or simply something to make your guests green with envy, this fair promises to leave your imagination utterly satisfied.

Slated for January 21st to the 26th, tickets can be purchased here!

Christmas in Connecticut with Designer Joanna Buchanan

The Glam Pad is delighted to share a special video tour today with home accessories and gifts designer, Joanna Buchanan! Joanna takes us inside her delightfully whimsical 19th century home in the Connecticut countryside that she shares with her husband and two children. Designed to bring the outdoors in, the garden is a huge inspiration for the natural elements in her work… even in wintertime! The historic home showcases treasures Joanna picked up during years of traveling and serves as the perfect backdrop and laboratory for the enchanted Joanna Buchanan collection which includes jeweled insects, Capiz Christmas trees and accessories, pearl encrusted snowflakes, bee embroidered pillows, and much more. We adore her mix of bold colors, chic graphic patterns, eclectic home furnishings, and traditional elements!

Joanna developed an unmistakable vision for luxury, color, texture and pattern not only from her 20 years in the fashion retail business but also through her Hong Kong childhood, adult years in Europe, and extensive travel throughout India. Joanna’s line of luxe, seasonal accessories, holiday decor and gifts was born from her mother’s love of holiday decorating and a dig through her great grandmother’s vintage collection of ornaments stashed in her parent’s home in the English countryside. Inspired by these finds, she envisioned a new take on classic holiday decor — an unexpected twist on conventional ornaments, she has transformed the holiday season by adding a level of vintage sophistication and glamour that has been missing from the marketplace.
