JAMES New York
The JAMES showroom has made its way to the Big Apple! Nestled in the iconic Interior Arts Building on East 61st Street, the 4,000 square foot space aims to redefine the city’s design landscape. With a curated collection representing the pinnacle of craftsmanship in fabric, wallpaper, lighting, furniture, and rugs, the Texas-based showroom brings a touch of Southern charm to the bustling design district.

The choice of the Interior Arts Building is a testament to JAMES’s commitment to heritage and community. The building, home to prestigious galleries, antique dealers, and design businesses, perfectly aligns with JAMES’s boutique sensibilities. Founder Meredith Ellis, who started her career in this very building 25 years ago, brings a full-circle moment to the showroom’s history. JAMES is rooted in relationships and aesthetics more so than geography, making for a unique and inviting atmosphere where design enthusiasts can discover new lines. It’s interiors feel more like home than a showroom.

The decision to set up shop in the Interior Arts Building isn’t just a strategic move; it’s a nod to design history, with legendary figures like Bunny Williams as neighbors. Meredith and Hunter Ellis are eagerly anticipating what lies ahead, as the expansion aligns seamlessly with the progressive growth of Meredith’s interior design business.

Crafted from local limestone and crowned with a Cornish slate roof, the estate is enduringly elegant with a symmetrical façade. Inside the estate, original features such as bolection-moulded door architraves, fireplace surrounds, and cornicing adorned with 20th-century paintings give the home a unique and very cozy charm. One could almost imagine curling up near the roaring fireplace with a lovely novel.
